About The Position

The Wastewater Technician I supports the safe and efficient operation of Clemens Food Group's wastewater treatment facility. This entry-level role focuses on learning wastewater treatment processes, equipment operation, laboratory procedures, and preventative maintenance while working alongside experienced operators. The technician plays an important role in maintaining plant operations, environmental compliance, and a safe working environment.

Requirements

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn industrial processes.
  • Ability to safely work around pumps, motors, chemical systems, and wastewater treatment equipment.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical, plumbing, electrical, or maintenance principles preferred.
  • Ability to follow written procedures and accurately document operational information.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Commitment to workplace safety, environmental stewardship, and continuous improvement.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills in a 24/7 operational environment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ability to wear required PPE and safely work around industrial equipment and chemicals.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and climb stairs and ladders throughout the facility.
  • Willingness to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and emergency response assignments as required.
  • Demonstrated desire to learn, grow, and advance through the Wastewater Technician competency program.

Nice To Haves

  • 0–2 years of industrial, wastewater, manufacturing, maintenance, or utility experience preferred.
  • Previous experience with wastewater treatment, industrial operations, maintenance, laboratory work, or chemical handling is a plus but not required.
  • Ability to obtain Forklift and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the operation and monitoring of wastewater treatment equipment and processes.
  • Perform routine inspections, daily rounds, and basic operational checks throughout the facility.
  • Collect wastewater samples and assist with laboratory testing and documentation.
  • Learn to monitor SCADA systems, respond to alarms, and identify basic process abnormalities.
  • Support chemical handling, adjustments, and safe operation of treatment systems under supervision.
  • Perform housekeeping, equipment cleaning, and preventative maintenance activities.
  • Assist with startup, shutdown, and recovery procedures following planned or emergency events.
  • Complete shift reports, production documentation, and communicate operational updates during shift turnover.
  • Follow all environmental, safety, and permit compliance requirements.
  • Continue technical skill development through structured training, mentorship, and competency progression.
