About The Position

This role involves monitoring wastewater discharges to ensure they meet specified parameters, maintaining necessary supplies for water/waste treatment areas, and overseeing the operation of the wastewater discharge system. The technician will be responsible for the calibration and maintenance of water quality monitoring equipment, conducting environmental inspections, and demonstrating safe work behavior. Key duties include reading and following operating instructions, recording data, using safety equipment, exhibiting leadership, and working independently. The position also requires the ability to read and adjust instruments, valves, and pumps, transport drums, operate a forklift, and manage various types of pumps. General housekeeping and organization of work areas, including sweeping, trash removal, water-blasting, painting, and equipment cleaning, are also part of the responsibilities. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Candidates must possess experience in handling lab instruments such as pH-meter, scales, etc.
  • At least two (2) years of full-time work experience in a lab environment or wastewater treatment field, hazardous waste management; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations

Responsibilities

  • Monitor hourly and daily volume of wastewater discharges, ensuring all parameters are within specifications: pH, EC, etc. This should involve both the pumping and the final discharge location.
  • Responsible for maintaining materials and supplies for Water/Waste Treatment areas.
  • Monitor all wastewater discharge system operations.
  • Responsible for maintaining water quality monitoring equipment always calibrated, in working and reliable conditions.
  • Conduct and document environmental inspections as required.
  • Always demonstrates safe work behavior.
  • Read and follow operating instructions and record data.
  • Use all the required safety equipment.
  • Exhibit good leadership.
  • Must be able to work independently with little direct supervision.
  • Read and adjust instruments, valves, and pumps.
  • Transport drums using appropriate equipment.
  • Operate forklift.
  • Operate Pumps: Centrifugal, Positive Displacement, Air Operated Diaphragm, and Gear.
  • General housekeeping and organization of the working areas, sweeping, trash removal, water-blasting, painting, cleaning equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned.
