About The Position

This position is responsible for controlling the Wastewater treatment plant's systems and equipment to purify and clarify water for permitted industrial discharge at the Wastewater facility. The role involves maintaining operational coverage of the Wastewater facility, operating and controlling electric motors, pumps, and valves to regulate water flow, and collecting and testing wastewater samples. The technician will analyze lab data to identify potential treatment issues, implement process changes, and maintain accurate record keeping. Coordination with other operators, facility management, and the Veolia purchasing department is also a key aspect of the role, as is completing preventative maintenance and assisting with minor repair projects. The position may also involve compiling data for various operating reports and for regulatory bodies.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Willingness to learn and ability to take instructions on Wastewater treatment processes
  • Ability and desire to build and maintain a "team mentality"
  • Strong communication skills, both verbally and written
  • Independent decision-making and judgment for commonly encountered problems
  • Ability to develop creative and innovative ideas to improve processes
  • Ability to lift and/or carry up to 75 pounds
  • Ability to climb vertical ladders up to 30 feet
  • Ability to stand for long periods
  • Ability to walk on uneven surfaces
  • Ability to maneuver in tight spaces
  • Ability to work both day and night shifts as needed

Responsibilities

  • Maintain complete operational coverage of the Wastewater facility throughout all scheduled shifts (primarily 12-hour night shifts)
  • Operate and control electric motors, pumps, and valves to regulate water flow
  • Collect and test wastewater samples to determine concentration levels and impurities
  • Analyze lab data to identify potential treatment issues and implement process changes to prevent non-compliance
  • Maintain accurate record keeping of client data
  • Coordinate with other operators, Wastewater facility, and Veolia management to maintain wastewater treatment equipment and determine optimal treatment methods
  • Complete all preventative maintenance at designated frequencies
  • Assist with minor maintenance projects including chemical pump repair, valve replacement, and piping installation
  • Compile data for daily, weekly, or monthly operating reports to Veolia and Wastewater facility management
  • May compile data for EPA or state regulatory bodies
  • Coordinate with Veolia purchasing department to order wastewater treatment supplies
  • Coordinate with Facility to schedule third-party maintenance support
  • Other Duties as assigned
