About The Position

This position encompasses multiple levels within the Wastewater Plant Operator series, from Trainee to Class A, B, and C licensed operators. The Trainee position involves working under close supervision to learn the routine duties of operating a Wastewater Treatment Plant and preparing for a Class C license. The licensed operator positions (A, B, C) involve performing skilled work in the efficient operation of a wastewater treatment plant on an assigned or rotating shift, making adjustments to equipment and controls according to established procedures. Some independent judgment is exercised, but unusual problems are reported to a supervisor. These are safety-sensitive positions subject to safety regulations and require passing annual respirator physicals. Facial hair that interferes with respirator seal is not permitted.

Requirements

High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate.
Successful completion of science courses that relate to wastewater treatment, water reclamation, or other related area; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Valid Florida Driver's License required.
Employees must obtain a Class C Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator license within two (2) years of hire date (for Trainee).
Florida Class A License for Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator required (for Class A).
Florida Class B License for Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator required (for Class B).
Florida Class C License for Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator required (for Class C).
Must pass annual respirator physical and any other state mandates.
No facial hair allowed between the face and the sealing surface of the respirator face piece.
Must have a phone or be reachable in the event of an emergency work situation (for B and C).

Nice To Haves

Employees are expected to advance to full working level (for Trainee).
A one-time extension of six (6) months may be granted based on performance and approval by management and Human Resources (for Trainee license attainment).

Responsibilities

Carry out routine duties in the operation of the Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Prepare to obtain a Class C Treatment Plant Operator license (for Trainee).
Perform advanced skilled work in the efficient operation of a wastewater treatment plant on an assigned or rotating shift requiring a Class A, B, or C operator license.
Make proper adjustments to equipment, machinery operating controls, and related control apparatus in accordance with established procedures and standards.
Report unusual or major problems to a shift supervisor for resolution.
Pass annual respirator physical and any other state mandates.
Ensure no facial hair is present between the face and the sealing surface of the respirator face piece.
