About The Position

This position encompasses multiple levels of Wastewater Plant Operators, from Trainee to Class A, B, and C licensed operators. The Trainee position involves working under close supervision to learn the routine duties of operating a Wastewater Treatment Plant and preparing for a Class C license. Licensed operators (A, B, C) perform advanced skilled work in the efficient operation of a wastewater treatment plant on assigned or rotating shifts, making adjustments to equipment and controls according to established procedures. While some independent judgment is expected, unusual or major problems are reported to a shift supervisor. These are safety-sensitive positions subject to safety regulations, requiring annual respirator physicals and adherence to specific guidelines regarding facial hair. Work is reviewed through observation and analysis of charts and reports.

Requirements

• High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Valid Florida Driver's License required.
• Employees must obtain a Class C Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator license within two (2) years of hire date for the Trainee position.
• Florida Class A License for Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator required for the 'A' position.
• Florida Class B License for Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator required for the 'B' position.
• Florida Class C License for Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator required for the 'C' position.
• Must pass annual respirator physical and any other state mandates.
• No facial hair allowed between the face and the sealing surface of the respirator face piece.
• Must have a phone or be reachable in the event of an emergency work situation.
• GOAA ID Badge required within 90 days from hire.
• GOAA Criminal History Record Check and Security Threat Assessments Disqualifying Crimes must be met.

Nice To Haves

• Successful completion of science courses that relate to wastewater treatment, water reclamation, or other related areas for the Trainee position.

Responsibilities

• Carry out routine duties in the operation of the Wastewater Treatment Plant.
• Make proper adjustments to equipment, machinery operating controls, and related control apparatus in accordance with established procedures and standards.
• Perform other related work as assigned.
• Report unusual or major problems to a shift supervisor for resolution.
• Pass annual respirator physical and any other state mandates.
• Obtain and maintain required operator licenses (Class C, B, or A).
