The purpose of this position is to ensure the proper amount of chemicals are added to water discharge to comply with local, state and federal guidelines. The Wastewater Operator applies the correct chemicals in the amounts to the water, making chemical feed or air adjustments as needed based on test results and evaluation done daily. This role performs tests for biological oxygen demand, total suspended solids, oil, grease, and the pH level. The operator takes water samples on a regular basis to compare with the standard and ships them to the appropriate testing facility as required. This position also completes weekly cleaning of the system and orders chemicals as needed. The Wastewater Operator participates as a member of the Team, fostering strong cohesiveness and accepting responsibility to quickly identify any areas that lack cohesiveness, bringing them to the attention of the team leader and working with the team in a supportive manner to resolve issues. The operator is familiar with Simmons’ established operating systems and understands the responsibility to maintain familiarity with the systems and this position’s role in support of these systems.
