About The Position

The Temporary Part-Time On-Call Wasterwater Operator Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance, repair, operation, and inspection of assigned facility processes, structures, compressor stations and plant utility areas such as water, air, and nitrogen. This role involves assembling, installing, and repairing equipment and machinery. The position performs routine tank or vessel cleaning and minor mechanical, plumbing, and pump repairs of utility systems using a variety of hand and power tools. The operator may work with other craft workers in the maintenance of site machinery and equipment and operate forklifts, skid loaders, and vehicles required to maintain the facility. Responsibilities include monitoring, inspecting, and adjusting a full range of equipment using manual and automated controls such as PLC, DCS, or SCADA, as well as hands-on work to troubleshoot, maintain, modify, or correct problems. The role requires observing and recording readings on gauges, meters, and charts to register the aspects of facility process and utility systems. Additionally, the operator performs sampling and testing to control process quality, and maintains operating logs, lab sheets, or other documentation for regulatory compliance. Reporting process deviations, variances, and inventory levels to appropriate personnel, and interacting with other staff, agencies, vendors, and outside contractors are key duties. The position also involves monitoring and maintaining spare parts and chemical inventory, and ensuring current training or certifications such as confined space entry, respirator fit test, and chemical handling training are maintained as required.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent, plus specific training in plant utilities and demonstrated understanding of basic math and written / oral communication, and (when applicable) able to read blueprints, schematics, and diagrams.
Work safely under general supervision, follow written procedures and verbal instructions, perform journey-level work, and manage time to complete assignments.
Computer experience including email, payroll time entry and online training.
At least two (2) years’ experience in a technical field.

Possess and maintain a valid U.S. driver's license and demonstrate a good driving record (no significant violations such as DUI, loss of license, inability to obtain personal insurance or currently covered under a high-risk insurance policy, etc.).
Pass a post-offer, pre-placement drug test, physical examination, and medical history check.
Pass a pre-employment criminal background check and have a clean motor vehicle report (MVR).

Assist others by training / mentoring, teamwork, troubleshooting repairs, and installing new equipment.
Escort and monitor work performed by outside vendors in accordance with facility requirements.
Complete and return required administrative paperwork as directed, (e.g., timesheets, vacation slips, classroom and computer-based training, log sheets, PM / PE / MODs, service records etc.)
Must wear proper PPE as required and ensure PPE is in acceptable condition.
Keep office space, operating area, control room, mechanical room, warehouse etc. clean and orderly.
Attend all safety meetings, participate in ES&H/ISM program activities, and stay current with assigned required training.

Nice To Haves

Associate Degree or higher in specialized technology applicable to water treatment facility and safety training equivalent to OSHA 10.
Knowledge of equipment and types of chemicals used in water treatment.
Five years journeyman level experience in a relevant field or equivalent experience in a commercial or industrial facility and broad knowledge of other disciplines.
Proficiency with Microsoft products, Computer Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
Familiar with laboratory operations is a plus.

Responsibilities

Must understand and monitor processes, analyze operational data and correct problems to maintain compliance, document information and know when to communicate problems.
Must be proficient with WPP, LOTO, chemical and environmental contaminants or hazards, confined space rescue, fall protection, hazardous materials and hazardous communication.
Performs all activities associated with wastewater, plant air, nitrogen and reverse osmosis systems, equipment cleaning and facility housekeeping.
Must understand process flows, water chemistry, machine controls, automation and processes, manual equipment operation. Know the location and isolation methods of all associated processes, over pressure safety devices, utilities and infrastructure.
Must complete scheduled PMs, install and maintain equipment and facilities, and maintain associated supplies, parts, and tools inventory.
Perform other related duties as assigned or requested to ensure timely project execution.
