About The Position

This position is responsible for monitoring the performance of equipment, gauges, and charts in the treatment plant and pump stations. The operator will operate, maintain, and repair malfunctions at the wastewater treatment plant, as well as maintain, modify, or repair instrumentation and control equipment. This includes calibration, cleaning, and ensuring the proper function of pH and ORP probes and controllers. The role also involves operating sludge pumps and filter presses, setting up hazardous waste storage containers, and managing hazardous waste from collection to disposal. Responsibilities extend to inspecting hazardous waste storage areas for compliance, compiling lists of waste needing disposal, organizing waste for transport, and reviewing hazardous waste manifests. The operator will also respond to hazardous waste spills and be responsible for chemical process tank additions. The position requires the ability to communicate effectively, hear in the normal audio range, frequently stand and lift objects, use hands to operate tools, and possess specific vision abilities including close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The work environment involves hazardous chemicals, paints, and solvents, requiring safety orientation and appropriate PPE. Most work is performed in shop conditions, which can exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit in the summer. The role requires the ability to perform basic mathematical calculations and communicate clearly.

Requirements

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers and common fractions.
Ability to communicate clearly.

Responsibilities

Monitor the performance of all equipment, gauges, and charts in the treatment plant and pump stations.
Replace equipment when necessary.
Operate, maintain and repair malfunctions at the wastewater treatment plant.
Maintain, modify or repair instrumentation and control equipment including recorders, flow meter, and other water quality monitoring equipment.
Calibrate, clean and ensure proper function of pH and ORP probes and controllers.
Operate and maintain rise pump stations.
Clean wet wells and operate pumps and valves to control and adjust flow and treatment process.
Setup hazardous waste cubic yard storage containers with proper labeling.
Operate sludge pump and filter press.
Collect, segregate, and transport hazardous waste from generation points to the hazardous waste storage area.
Label and sign appropriate hazardous and chemical reactants.
Inspect facility where hazardous waste is stored and evaluate compliance; track accumulation start dates of satellite storage containers.
Compile and maintain list of hazardous waste needing disposal and organize the waste for transport and disposal.
Review hazardous waste manifests and accompanying land disposal restriction notification forms for compliance.
Respond to hazardous waste spills in emergency situations.
Responsible for chemical process tank additions, make ups and remakes.
Assist in other duties as needed to ensure environmental compliance throughout the chemical processing facility.
