About The Position

The Wastewater Operator Intern works with skilled staff to learn the daily operation and maintenance of a water/wastewater treatment facility. This rotational program provides exposure to treatment mechanisms and processes at three wastewater facilities in the Bay Area: Lathrop, Discovery Bay, and Novato, California. The internship offers hands-on experience in a wastewater environment under the guidance of an experienced full-time employee. Work may include laboratory, technical, maintenance, and grounds-keeping duties. Internship activities focus on learning and exposure to fundamental business processes and procedures. Work environments vary by function and may include an office, field, or plant setting.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Must be enrolled in Wastewater Operations courses.
• Strong communication skills, including written, verbal, listening, presentation, and facilitation skills.
• Demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships.
• Ability to work in a wastewater environment.
• Ability to follow instructions accurately.
• Good organizational and time management skills.
• Willingness to work under the guidance of an experienced full-time employee.
• Reliable and punctual attendance.
• Ability to lift objects weighing approximately 30–35 lbs.

Responsibilities
