About The Position

The Wastewater Operator Intern works with experienced staff to learn about the daily operation and maintenance of water and wastewater treatment facilities. The rotational program provides exposure to treatment mechanisms and processes at three Bay Area wastewater facilities: Lathrop, Discovery Bay, and Novato, California. The internship offers hands-on experience in a wastewater environment and focuses on learning fundamental business processes and procedures. Work may include laboratory, technical, maintenance, and grounds-keeping activities. The work environment varies by internship function and may range from an office to a field or plant setting.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Must be enrolled in Wastewater Operations courses.
• Strong written, verbal, listening, presentation, and facilitation skills.
• Demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships.
• Ability to work in a wastewater environment.
• Ability to follow instructions accurately.
• Good organizational and time-management skills.
• Willingness to work under the guidance of an experienced full-time employee.
• Reliable and punctual attendance.
• Capability to lift objects weighing approximately 30–35 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Learn about the daily operation and maintenance of a water/wastewater treatment facility under the guidance of an experienced full-time employee.
• Gain exposure to treatment mechanisms and processes at three wastewater facilities in Lathrop, Discovery Bay, and Novato, California.
• Perform laboratory, technical, maintenance, and grounds-keeping work in a wastewater treatment facility.
• Learn fundamental business processes and procedures.
