Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalency.
  • One (1) year's experience as a water or wastewater operator.
  • Three (3) years' maintenance mechanical experience.
  • Experience performing operations, chemical testing, maintenance and repairs to water distribution, collection, treatment, and utility plumbing systems.
  • Ability to obtain Grade 4 water and wastewater license.
  • Knowledge of math and chemistry.
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Proficiency and knowledge of a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Required to walk, climb stairs, lift up to 50 lbs., open and close valves, stand and sit.
  • Must be available to work other shifts as directed, to include weekends/holidays and on-call duties.
  • Must be able to work in extreme temperatures.

  • Experience using technical manuals, bulletins, or manufacturer’s specifications while performing maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Operates and controls electric motors, pumps, and valves to regulate flow of process waste into the Wastewater Pretreatment Plant (WWPTP).
  • Monitors equipment, gauges, and charts; records data related to water quality to ensure proper treatment before release.
  • Responds to all maintenance calls from the main facility, including pumps, seals, electric motors, and other process equipment.
  • Monitors and responds to issues in the Central Utilities Building (CUB), including boilers, chillers, air compressors, and purified water systems.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on all WW equipment and some main facility equipment.
  • Handles and controls water and industrial wastewater treatment using hazardous chemicals.
  • Operates, maintains, and repairs process units such as clarifiers, aeration basins, pumps, valves, and dewatering equipment.
  • Responds to and cleans up hazardous spills as required.
  • Wears appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Complies with health and safety rules and procedures.
  • Works at varying elevations.
  • Operates a forklift.
  • Maintains a neat and clean work environment.
  • Completes required training.
  • Walks, climbs stairs, lifts up to 50 lbs., opens and closes valves, stands and sits.
  • Must be available to work other shifts as directed, including weekends/holidays and on-call duties.
  • Must be able to work in extreme temperatures.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
