About The Position

Under direction, supervise and coordinate operation and maintenance of wastewater lift stations. This role involves planning, scheduling, and assigning the operation, maintenance, and repair of lift station equipment such as pumps, motors, compressors, valves, check valves, electrical systems, and other related equipment. The position also includes metering all sewage introduced into the system, recording chart readings, and sending meter readings to customer service. Responsibilities extend to attending meetings to coordinate and review new construction, renovations, and improvements to lift stations, wastewater treatment plants, and all wastewater sections to ensure coordination for shutdowns. The Superintendent must respond to and determine appropriate action in emergency situations like power failures and other issues. Administrative duties include responding to emergencies, conducting field inspections for regulatory compliance, resolving customer complaints, requesting quotes, approving and ordering parts and equipment, and generating requisitions. Consultation with engineers and contractors to facilitate system modifications and overseeing maintenance of buildings, facilities, and grounds are also key. Record keeping of work performed, data entry into monthly reports, and preparation/interpretation of maintenance manuals, blueprints, and schematics are required. The role also involves supervising assigned staff by scheduling, assigning, and reviewing activities, prioritizing crew tasks, instructing and checking work, appraising performance, providing training and development, maintaining records of operator certification and training, enforcing rules, and counseling staff. Recommendations for hiring, termination, transfers, or discipline may also be part of the duties.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED or higher
  • Six (6) years of experience in the operation or maintenance of pumps, motors, and related utility equipment
  • Two (2) years in a supervisory capacity or EPWU Wastewater Plant Technician II
  • Class "C" Wastewater Certificate of Competency or Class II Collection Certificate of Competency issued by TNRCC required by time of appointment.
  • Class "B" Wastewater Certificate of Competency or Class III Collection Certificate of Competency is required within one (1) year of appointment.
  • Valid Texas Class "C" Driver's License or equivalent from another state by time of appointment.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate maintenance of wastewater lift stations.

  • Request quotes from vendors, approve and order parts, and equipment, and generate requisitions to obtain a purchase order number to purchase parts and equipment.
  • Consult with engineers and contractors to facilitate additions, deletions, and modifications to existing systems.
  • Oversee maintenance and repair of buildings, facilities, and grounds.
  • Maintain records of work performed, and enter data in monthly reports.
  • Prepare and interpret maintenance manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
