About The Position

This position is responsible for the repair and maintenance of sewer lift stations. The operator inspects, maintains, and repairs wastewater lift stations to prevent sanitary sewer overflow and to maintain proper efficiencies. This role involves researching, locating, and acquiring necessary parts and equipment, changing motors, replacing motor wiring, and maintaining and inspecting control panel box components. Additionally, the operator will repair pumps, clean valves, clean bar screens, replace belts, grease bearings, and maintain level controls. Basic groundskeeping, such as mowing grass around the station, is also part of the duties. The position performs related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of wastewater collection system operation and maintenance principles.
  • Knowledge of lift station inspection, repair and maintenance principles.
  • Knowledge of the hazards inherent to sewer maintenance work and the safety measures used to mitigate those hazards.
  • Knowledge of the tools and equipment used in the maintenance of lift station equipment.
  • Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
  • Skill in the analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions.
  • Skill in the use of lift station maintenance tools and equipment.
  • Skill in the preparation required reports.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
  • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
  • Obtain and maintain a State of Georgia Wastewater Collection System Operator license.
  • Obtain and maintain a State of Georgia Water/Wastewater Plant Maintenance Technologist – Class III license.
