About The Position

The Watershed Operator I is responsible for operating light, medium, and heavy trucks and construction equipment for the Office of Linear Infrastructure Operations. Duties include, but are not limited to: operating vehicles, machines, and preparing necessary documentation. This role works under direct supervision and follows standardized procedures and written/verbal instructions to accomplish assigned tasks. The operator may assist in training, orienting, or observing lower-level employees.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma / GED
  • 1 year of experience in the operation of light to medium-sized commercial vehicles.
  • Valid Class B Georgia Commercial Driver's License Required.
  • Ability to utilize mechanical tools to perform preventative maintenance (e.g., air compressor, battery charger, shovels).
  • Ability to operate dump truck, flatbed, front-end loader, bobcat, and small yard equipment.
  • Ability to transport materials to and from work sites.
  • Skill in operating light to heavy-duty trucks and equipment for transportation.
  • Skill in operating trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling, and unloading of various equipment, materials, and supplies.
  • Knowledge of safe operating procedures for various assigned equipment.
  • Skill in operating vehicles and heavy equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Operates multiple vehicles and equipment during the course of completing daily assignments, which may include dump trucks, state body trucks, or automobiles for errands and personnel transportation.
  • Operates landscaping equipment such as construction equipment, small trench diggers, and commercial mowers.
  • Directs equipment and vehicle inspection to ensure operability.
  • Completes service request forms to request vehicle repairs.
  • Completes weekly maintenance reports to document work assignments.
  • Performs preventative maintenance and inspection on equipment daily, including dump trucks, front-end loaders, Bobcats, and small yard equipment.
  • Communicates with supervisor to relay information and receive instructions.
  • Communicates with co-workers to exchange information.
  • Ensures all duties assigned on daily task sheets are completed and necessary reports are submitted upon job completion.
  • Maintains service and repairs forms for each vehicle, recording repairs, service completed, mileage, and other required information for scheduled maintenance or warranties.
  • Prepares forms for equipment services and repairs, submitting them with necessary information for scheduled maintenance for warranties.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
