About The Position

Performs all operations necessary to operate the water waste treatment plant including all start-up, monitoring and shut-down procedures. Handles and maintains inventories on all raw materials and chemicals necessary to run the system. Takes samples of raw and filtrate water and performs necessary tests to analyze quality. Collect and test water samples as required from various process points to determine acidity, turbidity, pH, treatment application and other impurities using various equipment such as, turbidimeters, titrators, and mixers. Control, operate, and monitor water levels, flows, mixers, pumps, filters, instrumentation, sludge levels and sludge removal to treat waste water. Maintains an accurate log of operations and makes routine decisions to adjust the system to changing conditions. Performs preventive maintenance on all treatment equipment such as pumps, motors, controls and gear boxes. Performs necessary tests to determine quality of water and adjusts equipment to maintain it within specifications. Maintains inventories of caustic, acids, filters, Polymers and other materials necessary to operate the systems. Cleans and washes all equipment according to Avon’s good cleaning standards. Assists other trades in Engineering as required. Performs duties in a safe manner and reports observed safety hazards to a supervisor. On call to respond to emergencies and breakdowns at the plant and pump stations Load and unload chemical tank trucks by connecting hoses/couplings Operates forklift and material handling equipment with the ability to move 35 yard open top dumpster Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience.
  • Must obtain Illinois Environmental Protection Agency Class K Industrial Treatment Operator license within three months of accepting the position
  • Must have good mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity.
  • Must be able to read piping schematics and equipment manuals.
  • Must be able to read English and have good written communication skills.
  • Must be able to maintain logs.
  • Requires minimal assistance and direction in performing duties.
  • Must function well both as an individual and as a team member.
  • Responsible for learning maintenance and operation of water treatment plant.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to handle pressure and demonstrate flexibility.
  • Able to demonstrate good interpersonal skills and take initiative on specific issues.
  • Ability to prioritize handling of situations.
  • Must have a positive attitude.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carryout more complex instructions in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Able to deal with more complex problems involving some abstract thinking, though may require supervision.
  • Requires little direction when solving simple problems
  • Able to effectively present information and respond to questions in written and oral format from Management and associates.
  • Able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals without Supervisor explanation.
