About The Position

Interstate Waste Services (IWS) is seeking a dedicated and physically fit Collection Helper to join their team. This role is crucial for the company's mission of providing high-quality waste and recycling services. The Collection Helper will be responsible for collecting and loading refuse from customer locations into a heavy-duty sanitation vehicle, primarily by hand. This is a year-round, steady position with a consistent Monday-Friday schedule, though occasional Saturday hours may be required. The company emphasizes safety, innovation, and environmental responsibility in its operations across Northern New Jersey, Southern New York State, New York City, Pennsylvania, and Ohio.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years of age.
Legally eligible to work in the United States.
Must meet specified physical standards: constantly lift, push, and pull waste bags and receptacles that weigh approximately 50-75+ lbs.
Ability to physically mount and dismount the truck throughout the duration of the work day.
Team-player attitude as the job is spent in close quarters with other staff members.
Resumes/list of work history with employment dates must be included to be considered for employment.

Nice To Haves

Experience from the sanitation industry is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

Collect (primarily by hand) and load refuse from customer locations into a heavy-duty sanitation vehicle.
Transfer refuse in a timely and safe manner from customer stops to the vehicle.
Assist the driver while maneuvering into positions for collection and disposal.
Maintain and partake in daily clean-up of the vehicle.
Learn garbage routes to better assist the driver.
Attend all required training, operational meetings, and mandatory monthly Safety Meetings.
