About The Position

This role involves performing Waste Management job functions under direct supervision. The primary goal is to ensure the site Waste Management function operates safely, cost-effectively, and in full compliance with procedures and regulatory requirements. Specific duties may support areas such as sampling, material control, and inventory. The position requires maintaining data in various systems, assisting in report generation, and performing tasks according to established policies and procedures. Both Technician I and II levels provide administrative and functional support to the Waste Management team and perform duties of general/routine complexity. The Technician II level has additional responsibilities including overseeing the generation and packaging of wastes for on-site and off-site storage facilities, and certifying waste compliance.

Requirements

  • Ability to wear respirator and other protective equipment.
  • Ability to carry several instruments/equipment or tools while walking extensively.
  • Ability to perform medium to very heavy work, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, non-repetitive, up to 50 pounds of force frequently (any exertion of force/lifting greater than 45 pounds requires usage of a two person “buddy system”), and/or more than 20 pounds of force constantly, repetitive; performing such activities as lifting, lowering, carrying, pushing, pulling, standing, walking, grasping, kneeling, stooping, reaching.
  • Ability to work in confined areas, tanks, heat stress conditions, high noise and areas with radiation and chemical hazards.
  • Pre-Employment Physical (office or field work).
  • Drug Screen.
  • The ability to obtain/maintain "L" or "Q" Clearance, or HSPD12 Uncleared badge one year from hire date.
  • Background Check.
  • Any site required training.
  • Must be available to start work within a reasonable time frame after acceptance of offer (typically 30 days or less).

Responsibilities

  • Assisting and supporting management in ensuring the site Waste Management function operates safely, cost-effectively, and in full compliance with procedures and all regulatory requirements.
  • Supporting Waste Management functional areas such as sampling, material control, inventory, or related areas.
  • Maintaining data in various data capture systems.
  • Assisting in generating reports, data files, and preparation of routine documents.
  • Performing assigned tasks according to detailed instructions and established policies and procedures.
  • Providing administrative and/or functional support to the Waste Management team.
  • Performing duties of general/routine complexity.
  • Maintaining knowledge of and demonstrating ability to perform work safely in accordance with all approved safety policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.
  • Actively participating in Safety Work Groups.
  • Overseeing the generation and packaging of wastes destined for on-site storage facilities to ensure compliance with receiving facilities requirements (Technician II only).
  • Overseeing the generation and packaging of waste destined for off-site storage facilities OTHER THAN THE NEVADA NUCLEAR SECURITY SITE (NNSS) (Technician II only).
  • Certification of waste compliance via signature (Technician II only).
