For more information, please visit Navarro-inc.com. Under direct supervision, the Waste Management Specialist I performs waste management job functions as assigned by management. This position assists and supports management in ensuring that the site Waste Management function operates safely, cost effectively, and in full compliance with FRNP Deactivation Project procedures and applicable regulatory requirements. Duties may support one or more waste management in functional areas, including waste stream certification, waste disposition planning, nuclear materials transfer, transportation, and related activities.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 1 year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, is required.
Typical experience ranges from 1 to 4 years.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required.
Knowledge of experience with nuclear facility operations is required.
Knowledge of and experience with DOE nuclear facility safety, including technical safety requirements, processes, and reporting requirements, is required.
Strong attention to detail is required.
Intermediate PC skills, including Microsoft software, are required.
DOE “L” or “Q” clearance, or the ability to obtain a DOE “L” or “Q” clearance, is required.
Due to the nature of the government contract requirements and/or clearances requirements, US citizenship is required.

Responsibilities

Perform assigned job duties supporting Waste Management in functional areas such as waste stream certification, waste disposition planning, nuclear materials transfer, transportation, and other related areas.
Work directly with FRNP Projects to coordinate daily waste activities and ensure required waste management support is available.
Interact with Waste Engineers, Frontline Supervisors, Radiological Control, ES&H, QA, NDA, laborers, and other groups to ensure necessary resources are available to support packaging activities as directed by the Waste Engineer per RFD documentation.
Coordinate with waste operations for AB approval, container delivery, container retrieval for storage, weights, treatment, and related waste handling needs.
Coordinate with security for container movement and material classification.
Coordinate collection of necessary documentation for each waste container, including sufficient detail to support final characterization and profile verification, such as Request for Disposal documentation, Waste Item Container Logs, radiological surveys, and related records.
Work with Radiological Control Technicians to ensure appropriate health physics surveys and dose readings are obtained as necessary to support off-site shipments or landfill requirements.
Assist FRNP Projects with establishing, maintaining, and inspecting waste storage areas, including TSAs, GSAs, CERCLA storage areas, and related locations, and transfer hazardous waste to permanent storage as necessary to maintain compliance with RCRA/TSCA regulations and site procedures.
Work closely with Frontline Supervisors to plan packaging activities and prepare packaging instructions for operators.
Inspect waste materials for non-conforming items and sort and segregate materials as necessary.
Observe loading of waste materials into approved waste containers.
Provide detailed information on Waste Item Container Logs for waste contents to assist Waste Engineers with final characterization and profile verification.
Mark and label waste containers in accordance with site procedures to ensure proper communication during on-site transport.
