Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent
  • One (1) year of experience in the operation of mechanized equipment
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Working knowledge of the principles and techniques of heavy mechanized equipment operations; hazards and safety standards common in medium and heavy equipment operation, maintenance and repair.
  • Ability to read, interpret and apply moderately complex written and oral instructions related to identification and handling of hazardous and unacceptable materials; perform strenuous labor for extended periods of time under varying conditions; establish effective working relationships with employees, supervisors and the general public.
  • Must possess and maintain a current Idaho Driver's License.
  • Must complete a Hazardous Waste Recognition Course annually.
  • Must be willing to work shifts including weekends and holidays.
  • Must be able to pass drug/alcohol testing and pre-employment background check

Nice To Haves

  • May be required to obtain a Freon recovery certification.
  • Must complete CPR training every 2 yrs.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of full performance duties as needed to receive and process materials deposited at the solid waste transfer facility, hatch pit or landfill; perform routine cleaning and maintenance of assigned work areas.
  • Direct traffic and the unloading activities at the solid waste transfer facility receiving area; monitor waste for listed or characteristic hazardous or unacceptable materials; provide for proper disposal; monitor landfill areas to assure proper disposal of approved materials.
  • May perform as the transfer station gate attendant, scale house attendant; weighs and records materials received; maintains detailed computer records of volume and type of waste entering the landfill through the various facilities; and check contractors and the public before admittance for compliance with regulations.
  • Apprise the public of regulations and guidelines governing proper methods for disposing of various types of hazardous materials.
  • May provide initial response as needed to contain and mitigate hazardous material spills or releases in connection with transfer facility operations; may perform segregation of materials for recycling purposes.
  • May operate heavy equipment in a training capacity to push and compact waste for shipment to the sanitary landfill; may perform routine maintenance on assigned equipment, i.e. cleaning and greasing track, arms, buckets, checking fluid levels, fueling, etc.
  • Monitor receiving and segregation of materials in the recycling area; provide information to the public concerning disposal and recycling of solid wastes; may assist with Freon recovery process.
  • Perform cleaning and maintenance of work areas using sweeper and various cleaning equipment and chemicals; perform winter operation duties, i.e., snow removal to allow year-around public access.
  • Ability to maintain regular, reliable patterns in work product and attendance according to Bonneville County's expectations.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned or required.
