About The Position

The Waste Management Collector is responsible for semi-skilled manual labor involving the collection of trash and refuse. This role performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled manual labor, collecting garbage and trash throughout the town in a safe and efficient manner. The collector represents the Town and interacts with the public daily, and may perform other duties related to Construction and Demolition (C&D) or Municipal Solid Waste (MSW). Assistance may be provided to other Divisions within the Department and other Town departments as directed.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Six (6) months prior work experience
• Valid South Carolina Drivers License
• Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in written form
• Ability to follow directions and complete tasks in a detailed and accurate manner
• Ability to establish effective working relationships with employees
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team
• Adequate hearing and visual capability
• Ability to work under adverse weather conditions

Nice To Haves

• Knowledge of operation and maintenance of Division equipment and effective practices and techniques
• Knowledge of department safety practices and techniques
• Knowledge of various department tools and equipment

Responsibilities

• Performs other duties as required
