Duke Energy is hiring summer engineering interns for its Waste and Groundwater Programs group within the Environmental, Health, and Safety organization. The group supports compliance with state and federal environmental requirements related to waste management, coal combustion residuals, groundwater monitoring, and corrective-action programs across generating facilities. Interns may assist environmental professionals with analytical and compliance data review and management; preparation of reports, plans, procedures, and regulatory submittals; evaluation of monitoring results; and coordination with laboratories, site personnel, consultants, and regulatory agencies. Other assignments may involve waste characterization and disposal, records reviews, permit and regulatory assessments, and continuous-improvement initiatives. The position focuses on office-based technical work and may involve interaction with state and federal agency representatives. The internship offers real-world project work and the opportunity to learn from experienced engineers. Program locations for summer 2027 are across Duke Energy’s footprint in North Carolina, South Carolina, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, and Florida. Applicants can provide location preferences. The summer internship/co-op session lasts 10–12 weeks. Hybrid and onsite opportunities are available, and many roles require a 40-hour work week. Potential travel to project sites is part of the role; travel requirements are listed as 5–15%. Housing stipends may be available when applicable.
