About The Position

The Wares Processor is considered a specialist in hard goods (wares) knowledge. This role is responsible for all duties assigned by the Store Manager, including sorting wares, examining product for condition, and ensuring the best possible price is listed on each item. The position is based in a retail store environment and involves work in the warehouse area, which can include exposure to varying temperatures, noise, dust, and the physical handling of goods. The role requires standing and walking for extended periods, frequent bending and lifting, and the ability to safely move merchandise and materials. Weekend and evening work is required.

Requirements

  • A high school degree (or its equivalent) is desirable, though an equivalent amount of training and experience will be considered in lieu of this requirement.
  • Knowledge of collectibles, antiques or specialized items strongly preferred.
  • Proficient in computer use including Microsoft Word, Outlook, and internet use.
  • Ability to count, add, and subtract.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently.
  • Ability to follow all safety rules.
  • Must be able to operate a pricing gun and price merchandise appropriately.
  • Ability to efficiently and effectively perform all functions of the job.
  • Ability to stand, bend, lift, and reach for long periods of time.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and occasionally lift up to 80 pounds.
  • Use of both hands.
  • Good manual and finger dexterity.
  • Ability to visually inspect and eliminate non-saleable donations.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of collectibles, antiques or specialized items strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Sort hard goods (wares, electrical, furniture, books, shoes, accessories) based on store criteria.
  • Utilize pricing guide to determine item prices.
  • Minimize trash and salvage materials as applicable.
  • Separate materials according to category (sales, salvage, seasonal goods).
  • Identify items that are priced by management (high value or unique items).
  • Price identified items as assigned by management.
  • Identify items that could be sold through ecommerce.
  • Price items accurately, balancing maximizing price with providing value to the customer.
  • Maintain productivity by meeting minimum production numbers.
  • Calculate and record the number of pieces processed.
  • Assist in donations or other areas as needed.
  • Participate in special projects related to wares.
  • Promote internal and external customer service through effective communication.
  • Follow established processes according to Kaizen standards.
  • Follow established safety rules.
  • Report safety accidents and hazards.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and orderly work area.
  • Utilize proper equipment and supplies to meet safety standards.
  • Maintain workstation supplies.
  • Complete workstation 5-minute clean up daily.
  • Demonstrate regard for Goodwill’s assets including property and equipment.
