About The Position

A Swing Shift Crate Specialist is available in Tacoma, WA at Milgard Windows and Doors. You will have experience reading shipping notices, and other specifications, and inspecting products to determine the size and shape of the container, materials to be used, and types of supports and braces to be used. In addition, you will fabricate wooden barred enclosures or boxes and pack such items as windows, doors, or other large or odd-shaped products. Requirements

  • Previous experience in similar environments handling various sizes of finished goods.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds unassisted.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Responsibilities

  • Layout dimensions on materials with a ruler, measuring tape, and pencil.
  • Saw materials to size.
  • Assembles materials.
  • Places product in container.
  • Bolts heavy pieces to the bottom of the container or skid.
  • Build an enclosure around large or odd-shaped articles.
  • Attaches identification labels or stencils containing such information as shipping destination, weight, and type of product contained.
  • Counts items to be packed to ensure compliance with shipping orders.
  • Completes shipping paperwork.
  • Complies with daily production requirements to meet specified delivery dates.
  • Works to minimize waste in all areas as described in the employees' MPS commitments.
  • Constantly monitors personal and surrounding work to ensure that areas are clean and free of hazards. Maintains all equipment and tools in peak operating condition, calls for repairs or maintenance as needed, and constantly inspects machinery for damage.
  • Assures a safe work environment through understanding and following safe work practices.
  • Reads and understands product information tags to ensure all aspects and window options are incorporated into the finished product.
