2nd Shift Warehouse Operator
About The Position
A. M. Castle & Co. is hiring a full-time second-shift Warehouse Operator at its Hammond, Indiana facility, which specializes in heat treating metal and material for customers. The schedule is Monday through Thursday, 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. The role involves safely moving products throughout an industrial warehouse, operating turning machines, saws, cranes, and other assigned equipment, and monitoring the quality of material produced. Training on the turning machine will be provided. Compensation is $21 per hour during the first 90 days and $25.88 per hour plus a $0.30 shift differential after 90 days. The company describes itself as a global distributor of specialty metal and plastic products and supply chain services, with more than 135 years of experience in the metals service center industry.
Requirements
- 1–3 years of previous warehouse experience.
- Experience operating an overhead crane.
- Ability to become certified on assigned equipment, such as a forklift or Raymond sideloader.
- Advanced measurement competency.
- Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures in a warehouse environment.
- Strong work ethic.
Nice To Haves
- Previous experience on a Kieserling machine.
- Experience with heat-treating operations, such as adjusting furnace temperatures and heat-cycle requirements for objects being heat-treated for orders.
- Experience in a metals service center.
- Certification on assigned equipment, such as a forklift, Raymond sideloader, or overhead crane.
Responsibilities
- Operate turning machines and saws and monitor the quality of material produced.
- Operate cranes to load machines and load or unload trucks.
- Maintain accurate documents and enter data.
- Set up and operate cutting machines according to established procedures and guidelines.
- May program and/or edit assigned machines.
- Perform preventative maintenance on assigned machines and corresponding equipment.
- Perform other warehouse responsibilities as requested.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
