About The Position

This position is responsible for operating a lift truck throughout the shift, performing routine inspections and preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment, and moving materials between various areas. The role involves loading and unloading products, verifying identification and counts, inspecting product condition, and safely storing or staging products. Specific duties include operating a lift truck by driving backwards and twisting to maintain visibility, moving controls to operate lifting devices, positioning lifting devices under pallets, and manually loading or unloading materials. Reliability, adherence to safety standards, and performing assigned duties are crucial. Depending on the specific role (Unloader, Preloader, Truck Loader), responsibilities may include unloading inbound carriers, verifying received product, inspecting product condition, moving and placing product in storage, reading and filling preload orders, staging product, inspecting and loading trucks, arranging products according to guidelines, using scanning devices and computers, checking printouts for discrepancies, inspecting trailers before loading, counting units against shipping documents, and securing loads for travel.

Requirements

High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED) preferred.
One to two years related experience.
Basic scanner technology.
Valid State Driver’s License.
Ability to work required schedule and arrive at work on time.
Ability and willingness to work the voluntary/mandatory overtime that is required during the busy season.
Ability to effectively communicate in writing and verbally in a courteous and professional manner with others.
Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instruction.
Ability to perform basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) in all units of measure using whole numbers, fractions and decimals.
Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage.
Ability to identify and compare letters and numbers.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as receivers, invoices, operating instructions and procedure manuals.
Ability to read and write simple sentences.
Ability to work effectively with people regardless of their age, gender, race, ethnicity, religion, or job type.

Responsibilities

Operates a lift truck by driving backwards and twisting to be able to look in the direction of travel on a continual basis.
Operates a lift truck all shift.
Performs routine inspections and preventative maintenance on vehicles and auxiliary equipment, such as cleaning or recharging batteries, and refer defects or repairs to supervisor/maintenance.
Moves controls to drive battery-powered lift trucks and transports materials between loading, unloading, processing, and storage areas.
Moves levers and controls that operate lifting devices, such as forklifts, lift beams and swivel-hooks, hoists, and elevating platforms, to load, unload, transport, and stack material.
Positions lifting devices under, over, or around loaded pallets, skids, and boxes, and secure material or products for transport to designated areas.
Manually loads or unloads materials onto or off pallets, skids, platforms, or lifting devices.
Reliable attendance at scheduled shifts.
Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.
Unloads products from inbound carriers (truck and rail cars).
Verifies that the product received is identified and counted accurately.
Inspects condition of all received product.
Moves and places product safely and securely in its proper storage location.
Receives and reads preload orders.
Fills orders by accurately picking product from storage and staging that product on a spot utilizing stacking guidelines.
Inspects and loads trucks and arranges the products with the cube of the trailer according to recommended loading practices and guidelines.
Uses scanning devise and computer as needed to perform tasks.
Checks printout for shortages, over-counts and incorrect model numbers.
Corrects shortages, over-counts and incorrect models where possible.
Inspects trailers before loading products.
Counts units on preload spot and compares with shipping documents.
Moves products from the preload spot, and directly from storage when required, into the trailer.
Arranges the products within the cube of the trailer according to recommended loading practices and guidelines.
Properly secures the load for travel.
Performs all other duties as assigned or needed.
