About The Position

This role involves a dual responsibility of warehouse operations and non-CDL delivery driving. As a warehouse associate, you will be responsible for managing incoming shipments, stocking inventory, picking and packing customer orders, and maintaining warehouse cleanliness and safety. You will also handle shipping discrepancies, identify special or damaged items, and complete necessary documentation. As a non-CDL delivery driver, you will operate trucks safely to deliver merchandise to various locations, including job sites, customer facilities, and vendor locations. This includes loading and securing the truck, ensuring order accuracy, obtaining signatures, resolving discrepancies with customers, and providing sales leads. You will also be responsible for daily truck inspections and reporting any mechanical issues.

Requirements

  • Be able to drive a vehicle over 10,000 lbs.
  • Be at least 21 years old.
  • Possess a proper and valid driver’s license.
  • Have a driving record that meets the criteria for being an Authorized Driver in accordance with Company policy.
  • Be able to pass a Department of Transportation physical examination before beginning work and again at least every two years while employed and performing this job function.
  • Know the laws, rules and regulations governing driving motor vehicles in general, and commercial motor vehicles subject to Department of Transportation regulations in particular.
  • Know of, be able to apply, and practice safety precautions in a warehouse and material handling environment.
  • Be able to build and maintain a positive working relationship with customers, vendors and co-workers.
  • Be able to remain calm and function effectively in stressful, unexpected, and/or emergency situations.
  • Be able to learn to operate warehouse material-handling equipment.
  • Be able to learn and operate the computer related systems used in the delivery process.
  • Read, write, speak and understand English.
  • Be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Responsibilities

  • Counting, verifying, and receiving incoming vendor shipments and customer return material.
  • Stocking and maintaining the warehouse.
  • Picking, documenting, and packing customer orders.
  • Handling shipping discrepancies and forwarding appropriate paperwork.
  • Identifying nonstock, special-order material, and damaged material and storing them in proper warehouse locations.
  • Completing necessary documentation for customer shipments delivered via third-party carrier.
  • Loading and unloading trucks.
  • Operating warehouse forklift and other material handling equipment safely.
  • Informing immediate supervisor of stock depletions, count discrepancies, or damaged/defective/nonsaleable merchandise.
  • Ensuring security and controls are in place to protect Profit Center assets.
  • Maintaining warehouse cleanliness, order, and safety.
  • Removing empty cartons, metal bands, pallets, and other debris.
  • Informing immediate supervisor of safety issues.
  • Operating trucks safely and in compliance with Company rules, applicable laws, and regulations.
  • Loading the truck at the Profit Center with merchandise to be delivered.
  • Securing the load properly.
  • Ensuring that the necessary equipment to safely unload the merchandise is available.
  • Understanding shipping documents and having accurate directions to each delivery destination.
  • Reviewing shipping documentation and ensuring order accuracy.
  • Unloading correct merchandise from the truck and placing it where the receiving party wants it.
  • Obtaining legible signatures for all merchandise delivered.
  • Working with customers at the delivery site to resolve shipping discrepancies.
  • Loading the truck at other locations with merchandise.
  • Providing sales leads by noting prospective customer names and addresses.
  • Inspecting the truck and required parts and accessories to determine safe operating condition prior to departure.
  • Keeping the truck clean of debris in the cab and body.
  • Advising management of any mechanical problems with the truck.
  • Completing the Driver’s Daily Vehicle Inspection Report when driving a delivery vehicle with a gross vehicle weight (GVWR) of 10,001 lbs. or more if a defect or deficiency is found.
  • Removing keys from the truck and storing them in the approved location at the end of the workday.
  • Successfully completing required safety and compliance training programs.
  • Performing all job functions in accordance with the company’s Safety Standards.
