About The Position

Title given to a non-licensed person who is trained to help patients by responding to intercom requests; obtaining needed services from nurses, licensed practical nurses, physicians, aides, and other hospital personnel. Welcomes visitors by greeting visitors, in person or on the telephone; answering inquiries; relaying calls to patients; giving directions; referring inquiries to nursing and physician staff. Provides information by answering questions and requests. Establishes patient record by preparing folder; assigning patient number; completing patient identification information. Maintains unit operations by following policies and procedures; reporting needed changes. Maintains patient confidence and protects hospital operations by keeping information confidential. Maintains unit supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; Keeps unit equipment operational by following manufacturer’s instructions and established procedures; calling for repairs. Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations; adhering to infection-control policies and protocols. Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed. Additional job duties or function not related to your department may be requested per administration to assist in other areas of the hospital within your capabilities. (7pm-7am Rotating weekends)

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Complete training practicum
  • Understand use and limitations of equipment
  • Familiar with standard methods and techniques
  • Possess critical thinking skills and decisive judgment
  • Capable of collecting, receiving, processing, testing, and storing specimens
  • Setup and adjustment of equipment
  • Basic knowledge of specialty areas in the hospital
  • Basic knowledge of regulations
  • Must be able to promote harmonious relationships among staff, visitors, patients, and physicians
  • Must conduct self in a professional manner at all times
  • Must accept assignments within job description
  • Must recognize/respect chain of command
  • Must not steal from staff, patients, visitors or the hospital
  • Must control self emotionally and maintain a stable psyche
  • Be able to perform job skills
  • Must utilize safety precautions, protect and provide safety for the patient (bed low, rails up, call bell in reach)
  • Must have command of manual dexterity to work with instruments, needles, etc.
  • Must be able to see clearly (corrective wear acceptable)
  • Must be able to hear adequately (hearing aid acceptable)
  • Must be able to speak clearly for proper communication
  • Exposure to hazards such as bleach, disinfectant, blood-borne pathogens (such as HIV, Hepatitis, viruses, bacteria and resistant bacteria), etc.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience or may be trained by a designee of the DON
  • BLS certification preferred
