Wallpaper Hanger and Painter

Fresh Coat PaintersCincinnati, OH
$20 - $35Onsite

About The Position

We're hiring an experienced painter who can also hang wallpaper for residential and commercial work across greater Cincinnati. Our work comes largely from repeat customers, referrals, and realtor and designer relationships — which means the finish has to be right the first time and the customer has to be comfortable with you in their home. The wallcovering skill is what sets this position apart. Most painters can't hang paper, and most paperhangers don't paint. If you do both well, you'll stay busy year-round with us and earn at the top of our range.

Requirements

  • 3+ years professional painting experience (residential or commercial)
  • Hands-on wallcovering installation experience — hanging and removal
  • Clean, straight cut lines without tape; clean seams on paper. This is what we screen for
  • Solid prep and drywall patching skills
  • Your own hand tools: brushes, roller frames, 5-in-1, caulk gun, extension pole, drop cloths, plus paperhanging tools (smoother, snap knife, seam roller, straightedge, water box, table)
  • Reliable transportation, valid driver's license, and a working smartphone for scheduling and job photos
  • Comfortable on ladders; able to lift 50 lbs and work on your feet all day
  • Professional appearance and conduct in occupied homes

Nice To Haves

  • Portfolio or photos of grasscloth, murals, or pattern-heavy installs
  • Spray experience — airless and fine-finish cabinet work
  • Commercial wallcovering, corridor, or hospitality experience
  • Cabinet refinishing, staining, or specialty finishes
  • Exterior and carpentry repair skills
  • Lead-safe (RRP) certification
  • Bilingual English/Spanish

Responsibilities

  • Painting interior repaints: walls, ceilings, trim, doors, cabinets, and stain/finish work
  • Exterior work: siding, soffit and fascia, trim, decks, and railings
  • Full prep — scrape, sand, caulk, patch drywall and nail holes, spot prime, and mask
  • Cut in clean lines by hand; roll, brush, and spray (airless and HVLP) as the job calls for
  • Measure and estimate material quantities from room dimensions and pattern repeats
  • Strip existing paper, skim and sand, and prime/size walls before hanging
  • Install pretrimmed and untrimmed, pre-pasted and unpasted, non-woven, vinyl, grasscloth and natural fibers, murals, and commercial Type II vinyl
  • Match patterns, book and relax paper properly, and cut clean seams at inside corners, outlets, trim, and ceilings
  • Set up and break down daily: drop cloths, plastic, ladders, and staging, with the space left clean every night
  • Track your hours to the job and report progress against quoted hours to your project manager
  • Flag scope changes, hidden damage, or extra work before doing it — never verbally commit the company to added work
  • Communicate professionally with homeowners, designers, property managers, and GCs on site
