About The Position

The Walk-in Case Management Services Intern supports the International Rescue Committee’s walk-in team in Baltimore with daily activities that welcome refugees, asylees, and other humanitarian immigrants and contribute to their self-sufficiency. The team provides need-based services to eligible clients, and interns work directly with individuals and families to help them navigate walk-in services. Under supervisor direction, interns assist clients with services such as activating EBT cards, applying for Social Security cards, obtaining Maryland ID cards, and coordinating transportation to medical and other required appointments. They may help conduct orientations remotely, in the office, at home, or in the community on topics such as banking, EBT use, and public transportation. They also support case documentation and file maintenance. The Spring 2027 internship is hybrid, combining office, remote, and field work in the greater Baltimore area. It runs for 14 weeks, from the week of January 27 through May 16, 2027, and requires at least 15 hours per week. Interns should be able to work in the office at least three days per week. The internship is unpaid; eligible interns may receive a $15-per-day per diem (based on a 7.5-hour day) toward food and travel, and may be reimbursed for mileage for approved activities. University credit may be arranged. Interns will be issued an IRC laptop for the internship.
