About The Position

This position is professional social services work of a supervisory nature related to home and community-based waiver services for adults with intellectual disabilities or autism. The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is dedicated to promoting health, safety, resilience, and opportunity for Maine people. The Department provides health and social services to approximately a third of the State's population, including children, families, older Mainers, and individuals with disabilities, mental illness, and substance use disorders. The Department also promotes public health, operates two state psychiatric hospitals, and provides oversight to health care providers. The Office of Aging and Disability Services (OADS) within DHHS is responsible for ensuring the safety, support and well-being of Maine’s older citizens, vulnerable adults and adults with disabilities.

Requirements

  • An eight (8) year combination of education and/or professional experience in social services to include two (2) years of related program management experience.

Nice To Haves

  • At least one (1) year of experience working directly with persons with intellectual disabilities or other developmental disabilities
  • A bachelor’s degree in a human services field (including, but not limited to: sociology, special education, rehabilitation counseling, and psychology).

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support four DD Resource Coordinators and one Office Assistant
  • Oversee eligibility determinations and service authorizations
  • Respond to inquiries from the general public, applicants, and waiver members
  • Collaborate with waiver providers and case management agencies
  • Participate as a witness in administrative hearings
