About The Position

The Vice President, Casualty Underwriter will play a key role in driving Accredited's continued growth by leading the evaluation, onboarding, and ongoing oversight of strategic insurance programs. This highly visible position offers the opportunity to partner across underwriting, actuarial, claims, legal, compliance, operations, and reinsurance functions while influencing program performance, profitability, and long-term business strategy. The successful candidate will combine strong underwriting and program management expertise with a collaborative approach, helping to identify new opportunities, strengthen program performance, and support the company's evolving reinsurance strategy.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in the insurance industry, with significant expertise in program underwriting, portfolio management, and delegated authority business.
  • Strong Commercial Auto underwriting experience required, with a deep understanding of casualty exposures, portfolio performance, and program structures.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships across program administrators, brokers, reinsurers, and other key market partners.
  • Proven track record of execution, successfully driving initiatives from strategy through implementation while delivering measurable business results.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience with the ability to influence, mentor, and develop team members while fostering a collaborative and high-performing culture.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to evaluate complex risks, identify trends, and make sound underwriting and business decisions.
  • Experience interpreting large data sets, market intelligence, and portfolio performance metrics to support strategic recommendations and profitability objectives.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills, with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to effectively manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present complex information and recommendations to senior leadership and external partners.
  • Thorough understanding of regulatory requirements, compliance standards, and industry best practices.
  • Self-motivated and resourceful, with the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across underwriting, actuarial, claims, legal, compliance, operations, and reinsurance teams.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the evaluation, onboarding, and transition of new insurance programs, ensuring a seamless and successful implementation process.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for newly onboarded programs, providing oversight, guidance, and ongoing relationship management.
  • Coordinate cross-functional reviews and approvals with underwriting, actuarial, claims, compliance, legal, operations, finance, and regulatory stakeholders.
  • Review and analyze all aspects of the due diligence process, assessing program structure, underwriting performance, claims activity, financial results, operational capabilities, and regulatory considerations.
  • Prepare committee materials, reports, presentations, and supporting documentation for program approvals and strategic initiatives.
  • Maintain comprehensive program files, contracts, and due diligence records.
  • Monitor program profitability and performance through underwriting audits, premium and claims bordereaux reviews, and portfolio analysis.
  • Identify trends, opportunities, and areas for improvement to enhance underwriting results and program profitability.
  • Conduct internal and external market research to support business development, product innovation, and strategic decision-making.
  • Provide insights on product opportunities, geographic expansion strategies, market intelligence, and distribution trends.
  • Recommend enhancements to underwriting, due diligence, and program management processes to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Evaluate market conditions, emerging risks, and regulatory developments that may impact program performance and growth opportunities.
  • Partner with the Chief Underwriting Officer in the development and execution of reinsurance strategies aligned with the company's risk appetite, financial objectives, and growth plans.
  • Collaborate with underwriting and actuarial teams to assess risk exposures and determine appropriate reinsurance structures.
  • Support the identification, evaluation, and negotiation of reinsurance partnerships, treaty structures, pricing, and coverage terms.
  • Assist in the coordination and oversight of facultative reinsurance placements and related controls.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with reinsurance brokers and markets to support placements, contract execution, and market intelligence gathering.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with program administrators, distribution partners, and reinsurance stakeholders.
  • Mentor and support junior underwriting team members while contributing to a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Lead or participate in special projects and strategic initiatives that support Accredited's growth and operational excellence.
