VP Talent, GTM

Turn/RiverSan Francisco, CA
3d$330,000 - $340,000Hybrid

About The Position

Turn/River Capital is a private equity firm that applies a proprietary growth engineering strategy to investing, partnering with software businesses to accelerate growth and build enduring value. The firm’s team of equal parts investors and operators provides hands-on operational support and the flexible capital to systematically scale marketing, sales and customer success at its portfolio companies. Founded in 2012 and based in San Francisco, Turn/River has $5.6bn in committed capital and invests globally with a focus on North America and Europe. Turn/River is seeking a VP Talent, GTM to work directly with our portfolio companies to assess, design, and strengthen their go-to-market organizations. This role sits at the intersection of talent strategy, organizational design, and commercial performance — with a primary focus on Sales, Sales Enablement, and broader Revenue teams. You will bring deep expertise in leadership assessment, org design, and executive development — and you will apply that expertise in service of one outcome: GTM teams that scale faster and perform better. You understand how to evaluate whether a VP Sales is the right person for the next stage of growth. You know how to structure a revenue org for efficiency. And you have enough fluency in commercial environments — comp design, quota structures, pipeline capacity — to earn the trust of a CRO on day one. This is a hands-on, high-impact role for someone who loves rolling up their sleeves, thrives in ambiguity, and can credibly advise both a CHRO and a CRO on the same engagement.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience, with meaningful depth in People, Talent, or Organizational Effectiveness — including significant exposure to GTM and sales organizations.
  • Prior experience as a Talent Partner, Operating Partner (GTM), or VP Talent at a PE or VC firm — or equivalent experience conducting executive assessments in a high-stakes, time-pressured context.
  • Demonstrated success designing or restructuring GTM org structures at high-growth B2B SaaS companies, with measurable impact on sales performance and scalability.
  • Ability to assess GTM and executive leadership with rigor: making clear, defensible recommendations on leadership fit within 30–60 days of engagement.
  • Sufficient fluency in commercial environments to credibly engage on comp plan design, quota-setting, territory structure, and coverage modeling
  • History of working closely alongside a CHRO or CPO, with proven ability to influence without authority across complex org change initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with portfolio company CEOs, CROs, and CPOs to assess GTM org health and recommend structural, talent, and capability improvements.
  • Conduct rigorous executive assessments of GTM leaders — making clear, time-pressured recommendations on whether leaders are right for the next stage of growth.
  • Design and evolve GTM org structures aligned to stage, growth goals, and business model — including spans of control, coverage ratios, and role architecture.
  • Define clear roles, responsibilities, career paths, and operating models across Sales, Sales Enablement, and Revenue Operations functions.
  • Serve as an executive coach and thought partner to GTM leaders navigating scale, leadership transitions, and performance pressure.
  • Advise on comp philosophy, OTE structures, and incentive design with enough depth to credibly challenge or validate what finance and sales leadership have built.
  • Advise on hiring profiles, interview processes, and onboarding approaches for critical GTM roles.
  • Partner with Sales Enablement leaders to improve onboarding, performance management, and ongoing productivity programs.
  • Help teams establish clear performance expectations, metrics, and feedback loops.
  • Identify repeatable GTM people and org best practices that can be leveraged across the Turn/River portfolio.
  • Act as a visible, trusted representative of Turn/River with portfolio leadership teams.
