About The Position

As VP of Performance Marketing, you will own the vision, strategy, and execution of Avenue Z’s performance marketing offering across clients, channels, and industries. You will build and lead a high-performing team spanning paid search, paid social, shopping, programmatic/CTV, and CRO/landing page optimization, and you will be accountable for forecasting and tying media investment directly to store revenue, profit, and business outcomes. This is a highly strategic and hands-on leadership role for a performance-minded operator who is fluent in both the art of storytelling with clients and the science of data, experimentation, and AI-driven optimization.

Requirements

  • Experienced performance leader. 6–10+ years in performance marketing with meaningful experience in agency or high-growth environments; a minimum of 5+ years building and leading multi-disciplinary teams (search, social, CRO, analytics).
  • Media & platform expert. Deep, hands-on understanding of Meta, Google, and other paid social platforms with a track record of managing $5M+ in monthly media spend across portfolios.
  • Operator and systems builder. Strong operational mindset with demonstrated success in building scalable processes, SOPs, QA systems, and org structures that enable consistent, high-quality execution.
  • AI- and data-fluent. Comfortable partnering with data science and analytics teams, leveraging AI and automation for bidding, targeting, creative insights, and forecasting- not just reporting on clicks and impressions, but tying efforts to net new revenue and profitability.
  • Full-funnel thinker. Experience integrating media with CRO, creative, and lifecycle to drive measurable, compounding growth across the customer journey.
  • Client-facing executive. Confident presenting to C-level stakeholders, translating complex performance concepts into clear narratives, tradeoffs, and recommendations.
  • People-first leader. Known for building strong, inclusive teams, providing clear feedback, and developing mid-managers and directors into strategic leaders.
  • Curious and improvement-obsessed. You are ambitious, relentlessly curious, and continuously raising the bar on what “great” performance marketing looks like for your team and clients.

Responsibilities

  • Own Avenue Z’s performance marketing strategy for its clients across paid search, paid social, and emerging channels, including performance creative, setting a clear POV on how we win for clients using AI, automation, and experimentation.
  • Lead planning and forecasting cycles (quarterly and annually) for performance media, partnering with Client Strategy, Finance, and Executive Leadership to align targets, budgets, and expected business outcomes.
  • Build and evolve the performance organization, including team structure, roles, and operating rhythms across Paid Search, Paid Social, CRO, and Analytics, ensuring clear ownership and communication cadences.
  • Oversee large-scale media investments for clients across Google, Meta, TikTok, and other platforms, ensuring efficient deployment of multimillion-dollar annual budgets toward forecasted business/financial goals.
  • Develop and systematize best-in-class playbooks for account structure, testing, creative and landing page collaboration, audiences, bidding, and measurement, enabling teams to execute with clarity and autonomy.
  • Champion new growth levers and tools, from bidding strategy and creative analysis to incrementality testing and first-party data strategies, continuously improving lead quality, ROAS, and contribution margin.
  • Partner closely with Creative, Brand, and Strategy to connect performance media with storytelling, upper-funnel programs, and lifecycle/CRM initiatives for full-funnel impact.
  • Work with Data & Analytics to define KPIs, dashboards, and reporting frameworks that translate performance data into insights and clear actions for both internal teams and clients.
  • Serve as a senior client leader and trusted advisor for key accounts, representing Avenue Z’s performance POV in pitches, QBRs, and executive-level conversations.
  • Recruit, coach, and develop a high-performing team, building succession plans and leadership pipelines across disciplines and levels.
  • Contribute as a member of the senior leadership team, influencing agency-wide strategy, operating model, and culture as Avenue Z scales.
