VP of Engineering

The job overview for this position is that Real, a venture-backed mental health care company, is seeking a VP Engineering who is passionate about mental wellness. The VP Engineering will be responsible for overseeing the company's product development organizations and ensuring the scalability of engineering teams, processes, and technology. They will work closely with the VP Product to design and deploy scalable mental health solutions and execute the company's strategic technical vision. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in leading engineering teams, particularly in the mobile application space. This is a full-time remote position.

• Lead, manage, and mentor a team of software engineers and engineering managers
• Oversee the design and architecture of scalable, reliable backend and frontend applications and services
• Partner with the executive team to align technical strategy with business goals
• Maintain high standards for code quality, testing, and performance
• Collaborate with the engineering team to fuel product development and innovation
• Scale the engineering team by implementing efficient platforms, processes, and tools
• Define product roadmaps and ensure engineering resources are aligned with business priorities
• Have at least 10 years of experience in software engineering, with at least 7 years in a leadership role
• Familiarity with tech stack components such as AWS, Auth0, Node.js, TypeScript, Javascript, React, React Native, iOS, and Android
• Experience leading engineering teams in building successful mobile apps and other systems
• Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to build cross-departmental relationships
• Helped hire various roles and updated the organizational structure of the team
• Knowledge of measuring key team and business performance indicators
• Experience leading engineering teams in the health & wellness space is a plus
• Managed B2C and B2B revenue streams is a plus
• Managed various platform areas and engineering disciplines within a team
• Experience with subscription business models, particularly with apps delivering audio/video content is a plus
• Led engineering teams through SOC 2 or HIPAA compliance efforts is a plus

• At least 10 years of experience in software engineering, with at least 7 years in a leadership role
• Familiarity with some of the components in our tech stack: AWS, Auth0, Node.js, TypeScript, Javascript, React, React Native, iOS, and Android
• Experience leading an engineering team that has built a successful mobile app in the consumer product space, B2B products, content management systems, security and compliance (SOC 2), ML systems, subscription and billing systems, authentication, data pipelines, and the infrastructure to support it all
• Exceptional interpersonal skills with a proven ability to build productive cross-departmental relationships and motivate team members
• Helped engineering teams hire a variety of roles and updated the organizational structure of the team through various stages of growth
• Know effective ways to measure key team and business performance indicators and track those over time to ensure changes are having a positive impact
• Led engineering teams working in the health & wellness space (preferred)
• Have worked in a business with both B2C and B2B revenue streams (preferred)
• Managed various platform areas and engineering disciplines within an engineering team, such as: mobile, web, backend, data, devops, and QA (preferred)
• Have experience with subscription business models, particularly with apps delivering audio/video content (preferred)
• Led engineering teams through SOC 2 or HIPAA compliance efforts (preferred)
