VP of Accounting

MewsQuebec, QC
$270,000 - $350,000Hybrid

About The Position

The hospitality industry is uniquely human, and it deserves technology that’s just as inspiring as the people behind it. At Mews, we’re transforming the industry with a platform that helps hotels run smarter, move faster and create better guest experiences. You’ll work with smart, curious people who care deeply about what they do. You’ll have autonomy and the trust to make good decisions and move quickly. And you’ll enjoy a real sense of purpose as you see the impact of what we’re building. If you’re motivated by ownership, curiosity and meaningful impact, and are driven to deliver consistent high performance, you’ll feel at home here. About the role Let's get into the specifics. It’s impossible to capture every nuance of a role – especially at a rapidly growing company like Mews – but if we had to distil it into a job description (which we do because this is a job description), it would be this: Mews is at a significant stage of its growth – building the financial infrastructure, reporting standards and compliance programmes that a scaled, global business needs. The accounting function is central to that, and it needs a leader who has been here before. This role leads the accounting organisation at Mews: controlling and reporting, AP and tax, technical accounting, payroll and, soon, accounts receivable. The teams are based primarily in Prague, technically strong, and highly motivated. What they're missing is a leader who can answer hard accounting questions, close the books faster, and help them understand what their roles look like as the business continues to scale. This isn't a steady-state role. Mews operates across 32 entities, has a SOX programme underway, and is building toward the reporting standards and compliance posture of a public-ready business. There is real work to do – and genuine career upside for the person who does it.

Requirements

  • Deep technical accounting expertise, public company experience, and the judgement to build for scale
  • Worked in or led accounting at a US-listed public company – understand what SEC, PCAOB and SOX compliance looks like in practice
  • Strong US GAAP knowledge is non-negotiable; dual US GAAP and IFRS is ideal
  • Hands-on SOX compliance experience, including designing or owning a SOX programme
  • A track record of transforming accounting teams – automating, restructuring, raising the bar
  • Experience with compact, multi-entity accounting functions; familiarity with complex consolidation
  • AI fluency, with a genuine appetite for re-thinking how accounting works
  • AI has changed how you work, not just how fast; you see where it can replace manual processes, not just assist with them
  • Can point to specific automation or workflow improvements you've driven in a finance context
  • Comfortable stress-testing your own assumptions about what accounting needs to look like – and helping a team do the same
  • Familiarity with modern finance tooling; exposure to Business Central, OneStream or Workiva is a plus
  • A clear and credible communicator who leads through expertise, not hierarchy
  • Humility, cross-functional instinct, and willingness to work with others are as important as technical depth
  • Comfortable working with ambiguity while maintaining clarity and momentum for the team

Responsibilities

  • Lead the accounting function and build a public-ready finance organisation
  • Own the end-to-end accounting organisation: controlling and reporting, accounting and tax, technical accounting and payroll.
  • Drive readiness across SOX, PCAOB and SEC reporting standards, and US GAAP adoption – building the compliance posture a scaled business needs
  • Reduce month-end close from day 8–10 to business day 5
  • Lead the transition to Coupa and a PO-first procurement model, going live September 2026
  • Build bench strength in US GAAP and SOX – currently one specialist in each area
  • Bring AI-native thinking to transform manual processes across the function
  • Act as a strategic partner to the leadership team and accounting org
  • Help the Prague team answer difficult questions about where accounting is going and what their roles look like as the business scales
  • Manage upwards as well as downwards – influencing leadership behaviour is a real part of this job
  • Work cross-functionally; accounting silos are not what this business needs right now

  • A work from anywhere policy with flexibility to work abroad for a few weeks each year
  • Relocation options, available after one year
