About The Position

This role is for a VP - KYC Manager within the KYC Onboarding team, which is part of the First Line of Defense Control Office in the Corporate and Investment Banking Division of MUFG Bank. This function acts as a centralized 1st line support team, providing support to MUFG Securities in both the US and Canada. The individual will lead a team responsible for all KYC related tasks for customers across MUFG Securities US and Canada Branch, ensuring effective and timely completion of tasks for existing and new business relationships. This includes new customer onboarding, reverifications, client offboarding, client restrictions, ad hoc triggers, and potential remediation initiatives. The portfolio spans various entity types and jurisdictions. The role requires strong strategic planning, effective stakeholder management, and the ability to influence at all levels, working closely with the Global Head of Securities. The individual will also support the wider team on complex issues, volume/capacity management, and be a key decision-maker on procedural/process aspects. A key aspect is effective resource and capacity management, stakeholder management, and driving service improvements through technology innovation and new workflow tools.

Requirements

  • 7+ years’ experience in KYC, Anti Money Laundering, fraud and bribery or Financial Crime roles
  • Experience within Corporate & Investment Banking, Capital Markets or Securities and exposure to related entities is essential
  • Extensive knowledge of the regulatory requirements for Broker Dealers
  • Experience of personnel and strategic management is key
  • Awareness of US and Canadian Anti-Money Laundering regulations
  • Awareness of US and Canadian Markets Regulations (Qualified Institutional Buyer, FINRA, Suitability 2111, Reg S and Volcker rule)
  • KYC SME with hands on experience in end to end KYC
  • Strong understanding of Banks and NBFIs especially, Fund Managers, Hedge Funds and Insurance entities
  • Knowledge of various corporate structures
  • Able to communicate effectively to key stakeholders at all levels and drive positive outcomes
  • Face to face connects with Front Office, Clients, Compliance and other stakeholders as needed

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for Team’s delivery: Ensure that all Customer Due Diligence is completed effectively for all new customer onboarding, reverifications and any ad hoc customer triggers across MUFG Securities both in US and Canada branch.
  • Ensure that all applicable “Know your Customer” requirements have been met for commencing business relationship and ensure that the business remained fully compliant with the Securities’ AML policy and all applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Prioritization, assignment and volume/capacity management: Engage with Front Office Teams to appropriately prioritize New Business Onboarding requests.
  • Responsible for ensuring team’s capacity is being managed effectively and being hands on with processing KYC requests
  • Partner with Quality Assurance team on Quarterly review and remediation of files
  • Ensure monthly quality of customer files are within acceptable RAG status
  • Responsible for ensuring all customer offboarding and client restrictions are completed following proper MUSA guidelines.
  • Work closely with our offshore partners to ensure monthly reverifications are completed prior to due date with a clear target of minimizing past due files.
  • Act as a senior SME within the Securities and FI Divisions in relation to all KYC aspects from processing to queries management
  • Ensure all escalations from internal and external stakeholders are addressed promptly, ensuring compliance with AML policy and regulations.
  • Coordination and management of key complex onboardings within Securities
  • Represent the Team and Division to key stakeholders on KYC Onboarding matters (stakeholders include management, compliance, regulators, and auditors).
  • Responsible, alongside the Head of KYC Onboarding to create, develop, and publish a suite of Management information reports – both regular MI reporting and ad-hoc analysis as and when required.
  • Active Stakeholder engagement- Regular face to face meetings with Front Office desks and Compliance; and with clients (as needed)
  • Responsible for partnering with the Production Control Tower ensuring that team procedures and processes are up to date, accurate and reflect all policy and regulatory change.
  • Act as a Compliance Liaison function for related matter, meeting with Financial Crime on a regular basis, ensuring queries are resolved, ad-hoc analysis and reporting is completed.
  • Actively seek out opportunities to improve the KYC Onboarding process; including the strengthening & implementation of controls and improving efficiency.
  • When there is a business requirement the role will also have to be flexible to provide support of the client onboarding process and periodic reviews for Corporate clients within GCIB.
