About The Position

As the Vice President (VP) of Government and Regulatory Affairs, you will report to the Senior Vice President (SVP) of Corporate Affairs for North America. In this role, you will lead Drax's public policy strategy and government engagement during a period of operational focus and regulatory complexity. You will strengthen relationships with policymakers, navigate regulatory challenges, and position Drax as a trusted partner in the communities we serve.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a senior leader in government affairs, public policy, or regulatory leadership within highly regulated sectors (e.g., energy, public health, technology).
  • Significant experience in the U.S. South, demonstrating sound judgment and discretion across federal, state, and local environments.
  • Strongly preferred advanced degree (e.g., Master’s, JD, MPP, MBA).
  • Leadership in a governor’s office or state agency
  • Congressional or federal agency roles
  • Government affairs in the energy or utility sectors
  • Success in building relationships with policymakers and navigating complex regulatory processes.
  • Deep familiarity with Southern political environments and the ability to influence across the political spectrum.
  • Experience in leading regulatory and engagement strategies with various stakeholders.
  • Interest in North American energy, climate change, sustainability, and net-zero policies.
  • Strong communication skills for engaging high-profile stakeholders and providing authoritative counsel to senior leaders.
  • Proven ability to build and motivate effective, agile teams focused on impact and delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Developing and implementing political strategies and policy engagement in the U.S. and Canada, supporting Drax's goals in carbon removal technology and sustainable biomass.
  • Enhancing Drax’s reputation with key political stakeholders, ensuring the company is seen as a vital partner in the energy transition.
  • Engaging with various government entities, indigenous communities, and external partners.
  • Gathering political intelligence.
  • Working with international public affairs teams.
  • Designing effective engagement strategies.
  • Managing agency resources.
  • Collaborating with project teams.
  • Actively participating in the International Affairs Leadership Team, influencing strategy and team culture.
