About The Position

The Vice President of Government Affairs will support MUFG’s engagement with Congress, the Administration, federal regulatory agencies, and industry stakeholders on public policy issues affecting the financial services sector and the broader business environment. The role, which will report to the Director of U.S. Government Affairs, and work with colleagues across MUFG’s U.S. and global businesses, combines government affairs strategy and execution, substantive policy expertise, and external advocacy-with particular emphasis on financial services, financial policy and regulation, and policy matters impacting a large global financial institution. The Vice President will help develop and advance policy positions, translate complex policy developments into institutional, business, and client implications and actionable engagement priorities, and work with internal partners to understand MUFG’s priorities and support effective external engagement and advocacy.

Requirements

  • Approximately 7-12 years of relevant experience in government affairs, public policy, financial services, regulatory affairs, government, law, or a related field.
  • Meaningful experience with financial services policy, banking regulation, or other complex legislative and regulatory matters.
  • Experience engaging with Congress, federal agencies, regulators, industry associations, or other policymakers and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and advance policy positions and translate complex policy issues into practical advocacy, business, or engagement priorities.
  • Strong understanding of the federal legislative and regulatory process, the Washington policy environment, and the implications of public policy for financial institutions and their businesses.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to work effectively with senior internal and external stakeholders.

  • J.D. or other advanced degree valued but not required; equivalent relevant experience will be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Help lead and execute engagement with Congress, the Administration, federal financial regulators, and other policymakers.
  • Build and maintain relationships with government officials, industry stakeholders, trade associations, and peer institutions.
  • Represent MUFG in external meetings, industry coalitions, and policy forums, helping advance institutional priorities and shape collective advocacy efforts.
  • Monitor and assess legislative and regulatory developments affecting banking, financial services, and the broader policy environment in which MUFG and its clients operate.
  • Support the development of policy positions and advocacy strategies in partnership with internal subject-matter experts, translating complex issues into clear engagement priorities.
  • Support MUFG’s advocacy on financial services and broader economic policy issues, identifying where direct, collective, or differentiated engagement may be appropriate.
  • Partner with Legal, Regulatory Affairs, Risk, and business teams to connect policy developments with institutional priorities and inform external engagement.
  • Translate U.S. policy and regulatory developments into clear implications for senior leaders, business partners, and, where appropriate, clients, while connecting Washington priorities across MUFG’s U.S. and global businesses.
  • Develop executive briefings, policy insights, and materials supporting senior-level government, industry, business, and selected client engagements.
