Fraud remains one of the most pressing and rapidly evolving risks facing banks, regulators, and policymakers. While the ABA continues to address this threat through policy advocacy, member education, working groups, and resource development, the operational reality is that fraud impacts institutions unevenly. Community and regional banks, in particular, face disproportionate challenges due to more limited resources, less access to advanced technology, and reduced internal specialization compared to larger institutions. This disparity has strained the ABA’s ability to deliver scalable, practical solutions that meet the full spectrum of member needs. Establishing a dedicated VP, Fraud Operations & Technology is a critical step in closing this gap. This role would bring focused leadership to the intersection of fraud operations, emerging technology, and member engagement—ensuring that solutions are not only strategically sound but also operationally executable for smaller institutions. With deep expertise in community and regional bank environments, this position would expand ABA’s capacity to deliver targeted tools, actionable guidance, and technology-forward initiatives that strengthen fraud defenses where they are most needed.
