About The Position

American Motion Group (AMG) is seeking a roll-up-your-sleeves finance leadership role within a growing industrial distribution business. This is an opportunity to own the numbers, improve processes, and collaborate with operators. AMG is a value-added distributor of mission-critical fluid power products serving Aerospace, Medical, Automotive, Mining, and Agriculture markets. As one of the Midwest's largest Parker Hannifin stocking distributors, AMG operates 8 locations across Michigan and Indiana with over 240 employees. Backed by Kanbrick, a long-term investment partner, AMG is aggressively growing from approximately $25M toward $250M+ through organic expansion and strategic acquisitions. The finance function is being built for scale, requiring a VP of Finance who can manage details today while building for tomorrow. The VP of Finance is a hands-on leader responsible for financial planning, analysis, and reporting, acting as a partner to operations, sales, and leadership teams. This role requires digging into data, understanding business operations, identifying areas for improvement, and driving change. As part of the executive team, the VP of Finance is integral to the business's operations, growth, and decision-making, serving as a strategic thought partner to the President. The ideal candidate is both an analyst and an operator, capable of asking critical questions, building trust with frontline leaders, and demonstrating that strong finance work leads to improved business performance.

Requirements

  • Progressive finance experience with increasing scope and responsibility.
  • Proficiency in financial modeling, FP&A, and business partnering.
  • Experience building or significantly improving budgeting, forecasting, and reporting processes from the ground up.
  • Ability to thrive in a growing, fast-moving organization.
  • Capacity to identify broken processes, take ownership of fixing them, and engage others.
  • Skill in communicating financial findings in plain language and earning credibility with non-finance leaders.
  • Proactive initiative in identifying and addressing necessary changes.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in value-added distribution, industrial distribution, or manufacturing.
  • Exposure to NetSuite or ERP-based financial reporting and analytics.
  • Experience supporting M&A analysis, due diligence, or post-acquisition integration.
  • CPA or MBA.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the budgeting and forecasting process by business segment, providing visibility across all locations and business units.
  • Build and maintain monthly forecasts, financial models, and operating dashboards for leaders.
  • Analyze segment profitability, margin trends, and cost structure, and drive improvements.
  • Embed with Sales, Operations, Engineering, and Supply Chain to understand their functions, earn trust, and ensure accountability.
  • Develop pricing and margin analytics to protect and grow profitability.
  • Monitor inventory performance, working capital, and cash flow with a focus on action.
  • Translate financial data into clear insights to shape operational decisions.
  • Ensure accurate and timely monthly financial reporting with real variance analysis.
  • Strengthen and expand NetSuite reporting and financial analytics capabilities.
  • Build the financial infrastructure and controls needed for business scaling.
  • Partner with the President on acquisitions, including financial modeling, due diligence, and integration planning.
  • Evaluate capital investments and strategic opportunities with rigor and speed.
  • Help define the future state of AMG's finance function at various growth milestones ($100M, $250M+).
  • Work closely with the accounting team to ensure strong day-to-day financial operations.
  • Build a culture of financial accountability across the business.
  • Identify process gaps, address them, and involve others in the solutions.
