VP/ D Principal Engineer – Credit Card Technology Location: Dallas About OneMain Financial OneMain Financial is the nation's largest lending-exclusive financial company, serving millions of customers through digital channels and more than 1,400 branches across 44 states. As we continue to modernize our Credit Card platform, we are seeking a Principal Engineer to provide technical leadership and drive the architecture of our next-generation credit card ecosystem. Position Summary The Principal Engineer will serve as the technical leader for the Credit Card Technology organization, defining and driving the long-term architecture strategy across customer acquisition, existing customer servicing, collections, payments, and third-party integrations. This role requires a seasoned technology leader who can influence engineering teams across the organization, establish engineering standards, and design scalable, secure, cloud-native solutions that support business growth and operational excellence.

Requirements

  • 12+ years of software engineering experience, including significant experience designing enterprise-scale distributed systems.
  • Proven experience leading architecture for customer-facing financial services platforms, preferably credit card or lending systems.
  • Deep expertise in designing microservices and event-driven architectures.
  • Strong experience with AWS cloud services and cloud-native design patterns.
  • Extensive experience with GraphQL and REST API design and governance.
  • Strong experience building applications using TypeScript, Node.js, and modern web frameworks such as React or Angular.
  • Expertise in CI/CD pipelines, DevSecOps practices, infrastructure automation, and deployment strategies.
  • Experience integrating with enterprise vendors such as credit bureaus, payment processors, fraud platforms, authentication providers, or collections systems.
  • Strong understanding of application security, scalability, reliability, observability, and performance engineering.
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to influence technical direction across multiple teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Credit Card, Consumer Lending, Banking, or Financial Services.
  • Experience with event streaming platforms such as Kafka or EventBridge.
  • Experience implementing Domain-Driven Design (DDD).
  • Experience with enterprise integration patterns and API management.
  • Familiarity with PCI DSS and financial regulatory requirements.
  • Experience driving cloud modernization and legacy transformation initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Define and drive the architectural vision and long-term technology roadmap for the Credit Card platform.
  • Partner closely with the Enterprise Architecture team to align Credit Card technology initiatives with the organization's enterprise architecture standards, target-state architecture, and strategic technology roadmap.
  • Lead architecture across customer acquisition, existing customer servicing, payments, collections, and third-party/vendor integrations.
  • Design scalable, secure, cloud-native solutions leveraging AWS, microservices, event-driven architecture, and modern integration patterns.
  • Drive API strategy using GraphQL and REST to enable seamless integration across digital channels and partner ecosystems.
  • Establish architectural standards, design principles, and engineering best practices across multiple delivery teams.
  • Evaluate technology options, articulate architectural trade-offs, and recommend solutions that balance business needs, scalability, reliability, security, and cost.
  • Lead root cause analysis, operational reviews, and remediation planning for critical production issues.
  • Drive modernization initiatives to reduce technical debt and improve system resilience, performance, and maintainability.
  • Mentor senior engineers and architects, fostering a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and continuous learning.
  • Collaborate with Product, Business, Infrastructure, Security, Risk, and Enterprise Architecture teams to deliver strategic initiatives aligned with business objectives.
