About The Position

Reporting to the division president and as a member of the division leadership team, the VP, Chief Medical Officer is accountable for the clinical performance improvement including the promotion of clinical appropriateness, the reduction of unwarranted clinical variation, clinical resource and outcomes management, coordinated oversight of hospitalists, and patient safety/quality related activities of the hospital. Sentara Princess Anne Hospital is a 174-bed acute care hospital that provides quality clinical outcomes, experienced physicians, advanced technology, and a patient-centered approach to care in southern Virginia Beach, as well as neighboring Chesapeake and Northeastern North Carolina communities. As a recognized accredited Primary Stroke Center, and Magnet hospital for nursing excellence, the hospital specializes in orthopedic and spine care, heart, vascular, advanced imaging, gynecological, comprehensive breast care services, and family maternity with a state-of-the-art neonatal intensive care unit. Our facility also is home to Virginia’s only Ornish Lifestyle Medicine program. Requirements

Medical Doctor (MD) - State License - Virginia Department of Health Professionals (VADHP)
Board certification in specialty required at time of hire, preferred ongoing recertification.
5 years of clinical practice experience required.
Must be familiar with all aspects of hospital operations.
Leadership in areas of Patient Safety/Quality, Medical Staff Affairs.

Nice To Haves

5 years of leadership experience preferred in an acute care, inpatient hospital setting.
Knowledgeable of contemporary practice issues within medicine, and outcomes measurement of clinical quality and utilization.
Understanding of Lean/Six Sigma methodologies.
Understanding of role as executive sponsor for projects and RCAs, and project leadership for system responsibilities.

Involved with marketing, population health strategies
Participates in key strategy discussions
Understands laws and other legal decisions such as HIPAA, HCQIA and the HITECH ACT
