About The Position

Blue J is a leading generative AI solution provider for tax professionals, operating as a B2B SaaS company. Our customers are accountants and tax experts who utilize our software for accurate and efficient tax solutions. Following a successful Series D funding round of $122M USD, Blue J is experiencing significant growth and is seeking a VP of Business Operations and Transformation to support this expansion. This role reports to the CFO and is responsible for designing and evolving the company's operating system, encompassing structures, processes, systems, technologies, and operating rhythms to enable effective business execution during growth. The position is hybrid, requiring candidates to live within driving distance of Toronto and attend the downtown office periodically. Candidates must be eligible to work in Canada.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience leading business operations, transformation initiatives, strategic projects, chief of staff functions, consulting engagements, or other highly cross-functional leadership efforts, with significant exposure to executive teams.
  • Experience in a 300+ person organization, including contributing to the development and continuous improvement of practices, processes, and programs in a growing company.
  • Proven success designing and implementing operating models, business processes, and organizational systems that improve effectiveness, alignment, and scalability.
  • Strong systems-thinking capabilities and a track record of simplifying complexity, solving root-cause problems, and building practical solutions.
  • Experience leading company-wide initiatives and driving organizational change across multiple stakeholders and functions.
  • Demonstrated ability to leverage AI and emerging technologies to redesign workflows and drive business transformation.
  • Experience evaluating and optimizing business systems, internal tooling, and knowledge management practices.
  • Exceptional executive presence, communication, and influencing skills.
  • Strong business judgment and a pragmatic approach to balancing structure, scalability, speed, and agility.
  • Comfortable operating in ambiguity, creating clarity, and taking ownership of challenges without an obvious solution or owner.
  • Alignment with Blue J's values and a passion for building systems that help talented people do their best work.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in management consulting (e.g., McKinsey, Bain, BCG), strategic transformation, private equity operating teams, and/or high-growth technology companies is a strong asset.
  • PMP or similar project management experience is beneficial but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Own the evolution of Blue J's operating system, strengthening how the company plans, decides, communicates, and executes as we scale.
  • Design, implement, and optimize operating models, governance structures, communication frameworks, and execution cadences.
  • Build systems that enable scalability through clarity, consistency, and accountability rather than institutional knowledge or informal relationships.
  • Identify and resolve organizational friction points, inefficiencies, and gaps before they become significant business challenges.
  • Establish scalable approaches to decision-making, planning, communication, and execution while balancing structure with agility.
  • Preserve Blue J's culture, trust, and autonomy while introducing the discipline required for the next stage of growth.
  • Own Blue J's internal AI strategy and help define how AI transforms the way we operate.
  • Identify opportunities to redesign workflows, automate repetitive work, improve decision-making, and create leverage across the business.
  • Partner with leaders to reimagine how work gets done.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend solutions that position Blue J at the forefront of operational innovation.
  • Establish governance, standards, and best practices for AI adoption.
  • Drive implementation of AI-enabled processes and build a roadmap that embeds AI into how Blue J operates.
  • Own Blue J's internal systems strategy, technology ecosystem, and information architecture.
  • Ensure business systems evolve intentionally to support organizational growth.
  • Lead procurement governance and optimize the technology stack.
  • Partner with IT, Security, and GRC to ensure secure, appropriate access to systems and information.
  • Establish and own company-wide knowledge management tooling, standards, governance, documentation practices, and accountability.
  • Lead high-impact initiatives that span multiple functions and do not naturally belong within a single department.
  • Identify emerging organizational risks, inefficiencies, and opportunities.
  • Drive execution on critical company priorities requiring coordination across multiple stakeholders.
  • Take ownership of important challenges that do not have an obvious functional owner.
  • Build alignment across teams while maintaining momentum on strategic initiatives.
  • Serve as a member of Blue J's Leadership Team and help shape the future direction of the company.
  • Partner with leaders to improve planning, communication, decision-making, and execution.
  • Evaluate and evolve operating frameworks, including EOS and future operating models.
  • Improve executive-level visibility, accountability, and alignment around company priorities.
  • Ensure strategic goals translate into coordinated execution across the organization.
  • Build the systems, cadences, and operating rhythms that enable leaders and teams to operate at a consistently high level.
