About The Position

The Vice President, Business Development & Product Strategy – Flexible Generation is responsible for the product lifecycle for RWE’s flexible generation and Energy Campus offerings. This role defines what is marketed and sold to customers, translating market insight, customer demand, and competitive intelligence into clear, differentiated, and market validated energy products providing solutions to customer needs. The VP works in close collaboration with Structured Origination supporting them in the design of marketing strategies, in the identification of priority customer segments, and in the enablement of effective market engagement, while maintaining clear functional boundaries. This position does not execute transactions, develop projects to FID, construct assets, or operate facilities. Instead, it provides the product definition and positioning, strategy, and support that enable Structured Origination, Project Development, Project Execution, and Asset Management to perform their respective roles effectively. In addition, this role supports M&A and asset acquisition efforts by identifying opportunities to create incremental value from acquired assets. This includes evaluating how assets could support new or enhanced product offerings. The role partners with M&A, Structured Origination, Commercial Optimization, and Project Development to inform value creation strategies associated with potential and acquired assets. This role is central to delivering RWE’s commitment to Generating Impact through Electrifying Ingenuity, ensuring that the assets and product offerings RWE develops, builds, and operates are aligned with customer demand.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Engineering, Economics, or related field; MBA or advanced technical degree preferred
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in product strategy, marketing strategy, or business development support within power generation, energy infrastructure, or adjacent capital‑intensive industries
  • Deep understanding of U.S. power markets and large‑load customer procurement dynamics
  • Demonstrated experience designing marketing strategies and translating market insight into scalable products
  • Strong cross‑functional leadership skills across development, engineering, finance, and commercial organizations
  • Executive‑level communication, storytelling, and stakeholder management capability

Responsibilities

  • Define product attributes including: Performance characteristics, Product structures, Optionality and flexibility features, Customer use cases and procurement alignment
  • Maintain clear, documented product definitions and product roadmaps as market requirements evolve.
  • Establish and operate a formal feedback loop with Structured Origination to capture: Customer requirements and buying criteria, Win/loss insights, Objections, risks, and evolving needs
  • Incorporate post‑COD performance insights from Asset Management to inform future product evolution.
  • Govern how feedback is evaluated, prioritized, and converted into product updates and new offerings.
  • Design and oversee structured market tests, pilot offerings, and limited product launches.
  • Define learning objectives and success metrics for each test.
  • Use validated results to refine product definitions and marketing approaches before large‑scale development commitment.
  • Design market tests and product pilots that include acquired or legacy assets, where appropriate, to validate new value creation strategies post‑acquisition.
  • Support Structured Origination in developing marketing strategies for flexible generation and Energy Campus products in collaboration.
  • Support Structured Origination in identifying and prioritizing target customer segments, including hyperscalers, data center developers, industrial customers, utilities, and other large‑load users, including: Market segmentation frameworks, Product positioning and messaging, Value propositions aligned with customer procurement drivers
  • Support Structured Origination in the implementation of marketing strategies by providing: Customer‑ready product narratives, Marketing materials and solution frameworks, Guidance on positioning products to support successful contracting outcomes
  • Translate product definitions and market strategies into development‑ready specifications.
  • Partner with Project Development to: Inform site selection and plant configuration, Reduce late‑stage scope changes, Improve capital efficiency
  • Support Project Execution by ensuring clarity on product definitions and market commitments at FID, without influencing construction execution
  • Collaborate with Asset Management to capture operating and performance insights that inform future product positioning and marketing strategies
  • Promote disciplined collaboration across functions while respecting clear ownership boundaries
  • Coordinate with Commercial Optimization to ensure insights from asset performance, trading outcomes, and market participation inform future product design and acquisition‑related strategies
  • Support M&A and asset acquisition activities by evaluating incremental value creation opportunities associated with potential and acquired assets.
  • Identify product offerings that could be enabled or enhanced through acquisition, including: New commercial structures for Structured Origination, Enhanced flexibility, optionality, or dispatch value for Commercial Optimization, Portfolio‑level solutions that combine acquired assets with existing platforms for Commercial Optimization
  • Collaborate with Commercial Optimization (power trading) to assess how acquired assets could be positioned to improve: Market participation strategies, Dispatch economics and optionality, Portfolio optimization value
  • Partner with Project Development to identify opportunities for: Asset expansion, Repowering or technology upgrades, Repurposing assets to support new products or customer types
  • Provide product‑ and strategy‑focused input to Corporate Development during acquisition evaluation, without ownership of transaction execution or financial underwriting
