About The Position

We are seeking a visionary VP, Internal, Executive & Brand Communications to lead Gap Inc.’s internal narrative and executive voice strategy. You will be the architect of communications that inform, inspire, and engage employees at every level—creating breakthrough storytelling and experiences that strengthen culture and drive performance. Reporting to the Chief Communications Officer, this role serves as the architect of a cohesive, enterprise‑wide communications strategy and unified narrative across the company and its portfolio of brands—Old Navy, Gap, Banana Republic, and Athleta—as well as key internal functions including Product Development & Global Supply Chain, Finance and Investor Relations, Legal and Government Affairs, Corporate Strategy, Technology, Marketing Shared Services, CEO Communications and Human Resources. The role defines and drives an integrated communications approach that connects employees, elevates leadership voices, strengthens brand equity, and advances enterprise priorities. This isn’t just about messaging. It’s about building trust, shaping culture, and creating reasons to believe in Gap Inc. and our iconic brands.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of progressive experience in corporate, internal, executive, brand communications within global, matrixed organizations
  • Proven experience operating at the executive level, advising C-suite leaders, and influencing enterprise strategy; experience in a publicly traded company is a plus
  • Exceptional storyteller with expertise across internal, external, and executive communications channels
  • Demonstrated success leading large, high-performing teams and complex, cross-functional initiatives
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to connect communications strategy to business outcomes
  • Data-driven mindset with experience measuring impact and optimizing performance
  • Skilled in managing budgets, agencies, and global communications operations

Responsibilities

  • Craft a Unified Narrative: Develop a comprehensive, insight-driven communications strategy that informs, connects, and inspires employees—reinforcing culture as a catalyst for business success.
  • Build and own a unified corporate and portfolio narrative, ensuring consistency across brands while preserving and amplifying distinct voices across Brands and Internal Executives.
  • Provide Strategic Counsel: Advise senior executives on communications that drive clarity, confidence, and alignment across the entire organization.
  • Lead with Impact: Manage a global team, fostering a culture of high performance, creativity, and continuous improvement.
  • Leads and manages the Internal/Executive Communications and Brand Communications teams.
  • Delivers strategic communications support for our portfolio of brands (Old Navy, Gap, Banana Republic, Athleta), and key business functions (Product Development & Global Supply Chain, Finance and Investor Relations, Legal and Government Affairs, Corporate Strategy, Technology, Marketing Shared Services, Human Resources) and CEO/Executive Communications.
  • Serves as the primary liaison for Senior Leadership Team (SLT) members to ensure alignment, clarity, and impact across all initiatives.
  • Shape and deliver enterprise-wide internal communications strategies that inform, inspire, and engage employees globally.
  • Ensure alignment between corporate messaging and brand storytelling across all audiences.
  • Drive alignment across functions (HR, Finance, Legal, Technology, Supply Chain, Strategy, and Corporate Affairs) to ensure consistent and effective communication across the enterprise.
  • Lead development of integrated internal and external communications strategies that support enterprise and brand priorities across all four brands.
  • Lead the strategy, design, and delivery of enterprise and leadership summits, shaping agendas and narratives in partnership with senior leaders to align teams around strategy, activate key priorities, and strengthen connection across the organization.
  • Oversee creation and distribution of multi-channel content including media materials, executive messaging, social content, and investor communications.
  • Create breakthrough internal content strategies that elevate Gap Inc.’s narrative and showcase proof points of progress and innovation.
  • Oversee enterprise-wide engagement initiatives, including planning and executing global town halls and other leadership forums to drive alignment, transparency, and employee engagement.
  • Oversee development of speeches, presentations, FAQs, social content, and materials for internal and external speaking engagements.
  • Partner with Corporate Affairs to ensure internal messaging aligns with external communications for employees, media, shareholders, and customers.
  • Implement metrics to evaluate communication effectiveness and inform continuous improvement.
  • Stay ahead of industry trends, best practices, and emerging channels to evolve internal and executive communications.
