About The Position

The VP/Chief Ethics & Compliance Officer is a senior-level position responsible for developing, enhancing, implementing, and overseeing Sight Sciences’ Global Compliance and Ethics Program. This role involves supervising the Compliance & Ethics Department, promoting an organizational culture that encourages ethical conduct and a commitment to compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and industry codes of ethics. The position also requires assessing and addressing the specific risks of the Company with actions to reduce or eliminate those risks. Additionally, this role serves as the HIPAA Privacy Officer, responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring privacy policies and procedures, monitoring privacy-related regulatory requirements, acting as a liaison with regulatory agencies, overseeing privacy awareness and training programs, conducting privacy risk assessments and audits, investigating privacy complaints and breaches, and coordinating with legal counsel on privacy matters.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree related field or US Healthcare Compliance Certification and International Healthcare Compliance Certification, or a Juris Doctor (preferred) or equivalent experience required.
Minimum 10 years of experience in a healthcare role.
Minimum 5 years of experience in a senior healthcare compliance role.
Excellent analytical, written/oral communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong understanding of current industry codes of conduct, including AdvaMed, MDMA and other global medical device company guidelines.
Familiarity with laws, regulations and standards governing medical device companies (e.g., Anti-Kickback Statute, FDCA, FCPA, UK Bribery Act, AdvaMed/MDMA/MedTech industry guidelines, prohibition of off-label promotion).
Exceptional customer service (internal and external) and interpersonal skills with the ability to handle difficult interactions; identify the problem and escalate issues as appropriate.
Thorough working knowledge of the medical device industry is required.
Successful leadership skills.
Ability to exercise sound independent decision-making and good judgment.
Maintain the strictest confidentiality.

Responsibilities

Continuously enhance, implement, and monitor Sight Sciences’ Global Compliance and Ethics Program and serve as the chairperson of the Company’s Ethics and Compliance Committee.
Report to, advise, and make recommendations to Sight Sciences’ senior officer and/or the board of directors, or a committee thereof (e.g., the Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee), concerning its Global Compliance and Ethics Program at regular intervals.
Oversee and monitor changes in industry codes of ethics/conduct and legal requirements related to the sale and marketing of medical devices, products, and/or pharmaceuticals, such as federal and state health care fraud and abuse laws and regulations, transparency reporting requirements, and privacy.
Develop, revise, and implement Company Code of Business Conduct and Ethics, policies, and procedures for the general operation of the Global Compliance & Ethics Program and its related activities to globally reduce or eliminate illegal, unethical, or improper conduct.
Develop global compliance training materials and perform ongoing compliance training for all Company personnel, including certain consultants and distributors.
Collaborate globally with other departments (e.g., HR, Sales, Marketing, Regulatory Affairs, Clinical Affairs, Accounting, IT, etc.) to address questions or direct compliance issues to appropriate existing channels for investigation and resolution.
Oversee the Company’s Compliance Ethics Hotline and respond to, investigate, and/or coordinate the investigation of alleged violations of policies, procedures, industry standards of ethics/conduct, laws, and/or regulations by evaluating or recommending the initiation of investigative procedures.
Institute and maintain effective global compliance communication programs for the organization, including promoting the appropriate use of the compliance hotline, heightened awareness of Sight Sciences Code of Business Conduct & Ethics, and understanding of new and existing compliance issues and related policies and procedures.
Coordinate internal monitoring and auditing to ensure compliance with the Company’s Code of Business Conduct and Ethics and all applicable policies, procedures, industry codes, and legal and regulatory requirements.
Develop, implement and monitor privacy (e.g., HIPAA and GDPR) policies and procedures.
Monitor privacy-related regulatory requirements and act as liaison with regulatory agencies.
Oversee privacy-related awareness and training programs for employees.
Conduct regular privacy risk assessments and audits.
Investigate and respond to privacy complaints and potential breaches and report to necessary authorities when required.
Coordinate with legal counsel on privacy matters and sanctions policies.
Collaborate with the Security Officer on cybersecurity and ePHI protection.
