The Henry Ford is a nonprofit organization and internationally recognized cultural destination that provides educational experiences based on authentic objects, stories, and lives from America’s traditions of ingenuity, resourcefulness, and innovation. Its purpose is to inspire people to learn from these traditions to help shape a better future. The organization’s values are Welcoming, Curious, Authentic, and Passionate. The Henry Ford’s Volunteer Program began in 1978 and, in 2026, includes more than 300 volunteers supporting more than 25 departments. Volunteers contribute their time, skills, and interests to help advance the organization’s mission and create meaningful experiences for guests and the community. Placements are matched according to organizational needs, assignment requirements, and each applicant’s interests, availability, experience, and skills. Volunteer opportunities may be available at museum and Greenfield Village buildings; in special programming and events, educational programs, administrative and office support, behind-the-scenes projects, and other areas based on organizational needs. Duties and environments vary by assignment. Applicants may share accessibility considerations to help identify an appropriate and safe placement.
