About The Position

YWCA Northeast Kansas is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all. We provide transformative services in the areas of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking and human trafficking, Community Violence Interruption, before- and after-school programming, and leadership and inclusion initiatives. Reporting to the Public Education Manager, the Training & Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for the development, coordination, and implementation of training and volunteer engagement efforts for the Center for Safety and Empowerment (CSE). This position ensures that staff, interns, and volunteers are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and values necessary to provide survivor-centered, trauma-informed advocacy across all program areas. This role leads new advocate training, coordinates ongoing staff development, and manages the recruitment, placement, and support of volunteers and interns. The position works collaboratively across YWCA programs to ensure consistency in training delivery, alignment with organizational philosophy, and effective integration of volunteers into service environments.

Requirements

  • Basic understanding of dynamics of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and human trafficking.
  • Experience in training, facilitation, or public speaking.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage individuals in crisis.
  • Strong organization skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and the ability to travel within service areas.
  • Dedication to relationship building and a commitment to working as an integral part of a team, while exercising significant initiative and autonomy.
  • Commitment to the YWCA mission and values, including a strong focus on racial equity and social justice.
  • Pass various background checks.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and facilitates New Advocate Training for staff, interns, and volunteers, ensuring alignment with best practices in domestic and dating violence, sexual violence, stalking, and human trafficking.
  • Develops and implements onboarding and on-the-job training for individuals engaged in direct service.
  • Assesses ongoing training needs across CSE programs and coordinates continuing education opportunities.
  • Maintains and updates training curriculum to reflect emerging trends, compliance requirements, and organizational philosophy.
  • Collaborates with CSE leadership to support agency-wide training initiatives and staff development efforts.
  • Tracks training completion and maintains accurate records for compliance, reporting, and program quality.
  • Recruits, screens, and onboards volunteers and interns in collaboration with YWCA leadership.
  • Provides orientation, guidance, and ongoing support to volunteers and interns, monitoring engagement and addressing concerns as needed.
  • Ensures all volunteer and intern activities align with confidentiality requirements and survivor-centered, trauma-informed practices.
  • Maintains records of volunteer and intern engagement, including hours, roles, and outcomes.
  • Works collaboratively across YWCA Northeast Kansas programs to support training, volunteer engagement, and mission-aligned initiatives.
  • Assists with planning and implementation of special events and fundraisers, including coordination of volunteers and in-kind contributions.
  • Supports the Holiday Store, donation drives, and other in-kind engagement activities that benefit clients and programs.
  • Partners with the Community Engagement Team and program staff to ensure alignment between volunteer efforts, community engagement, and service delivery needs.
  • Serves as a liaison for specialized volunteer efforts, including coordination related to the Pet Foster Program, as applicable.
  • Represents CSE in community meetings or partnerships related to training, volunteerism, or workforce development, as needed.
  • Provides advocacy and direct client support as needed, consistent with training and role expectations.
  • Answers hotline calls and provides crisis intervention support as assigned.
  • Participates in on-call rotation or backup support, as determined by program needs.
  • Actively participates in CSE team meetings, supervision, and program planning efforts.
  • Completes all required documentation, including timekeeping and program records, in accordance with funder and organizational requirements.
  • Refrains from assuming any duty that is unrelated to and/or interferes with the responsibilities of the position.
  • Advocates, promotes, and practices cultural sensitivity and responsiveness in day-to-day interactions.
