About The Position

The Volunteer Experience and Hospitality Specialist is the primary liaison with volunteers across Habitat for Humanity of Greater Nashville (HFHGN) footprint Davidson County. Works with Construction Operations Manager to ensure build sites are ready for volunteers and those who are volunteering have a welcoming and engaging experience. Works as a member of the construction team performing varying construction functions.

Requirements

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft applications including Word, Excel and Outlook required.
  • Must enjoy serving others, be a team player, able to handle multiple tasks efficiently, be self-motivated and detail oriented.
  • This position will require 40 hours per week (Seasonal overtime expected).
  • Must be available to work Saturdays and Sundays during the defined build seasons. as well as availability to coordinate volunteer activities on the construction site on designated Saturdays and Sundays and to attend occasional evening meetings.
  • Satisfactory attendance is required.

Nice To Haves

  • College degree preferred and/or a minimum of 3 to 5 years work experience in volunteer coordination.
  • Familiar with Salesforce.com or comparable customer relations software platform.

Responsibilities

  • Volunteer Experience–Home Builds Responsible for the preparation of welcoming volunteers to multiple build site locations based at Nashville construction sites but also cross trained for our surrounding 5-county radius. This includes all registration boxes, volunteer lists, PPE, sponsor flags and parking signage.
  • Act as build site concierge from 6:00am – 3:00pm. Activities include setup of volunteer registration; greeting of volunteer and sponsor coordinator, ensuring groups have breakfast, lunch, snacks and water; facilitating introductions of future Habitat homeowner, participation in scripted build site welcome, site cleanup, etc.
  • Active engagement and presence on the build site to facilitate connection points to the build, Habitat experience and organizational mission.
  • Encourage sponsors and volunteers to utilize social media during build days. Assist and collaborate with SOS communications Assist Marketing & PR with photographic capture of builds when working with sponsor groups
  • Responsible for handling emergency situations on the build site in collaboration with construction staff and as directed by management, following established procedures and protocols.
  • Responsible for wrapping up build sites and assisting across the five County service area at the end of each season, inventorying items and preparing for the season to come.
  • Assist marketing with the evaluation of signage needs and providing continuity across the five-county service area, including weekly updates of sponsor flags in Nashville.
  • Willingness to learn basic construction language, construction functions, including, but not limited to: carpentry, concrete, drywall, masonry, siding, roofing, flooring, trim, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and appropriate energy efficient trade practices
  • Ability to lead and engage volunteers throughout the build days to ensure they are engaged in the experience
  • Strong and effective communication skills, with an ability to lead and train volunteers with variable construction skill levels; and have the ability to speak publicly on construction site
  • Holds a fiduciary duty towards agency cost, time, quality, engagement, and experience
  • Strong scheduling, organizational, and reporting skills
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle
  • Support year-round with all construction activities for the agency in the completion of homes, and various other projects, in conjunction with the broader construction team
  • Other duties as required
  • Follow all agency policies and procedures.
  • Participate in and support agency activities as requested.
  • Effectively carry out required administrative duties essential to ongoing volunteer management.
  • Must be able to meet deadlines and operate in a busy work environment that includes both office and build site responsibilities.
  • Ability to work at multiple job site locations, as assigned
  • Must have a clean driving record for insurance purposes
  • Regular and reliable attendance is required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
