Through donated goods and thrift store operations, we support programs that reflect our commitment to helping individuals and families in need. Our donations center is often the first point of connection between our mission and the community we serve. Position Summary The Volunteer Coordinator will oversee all aspects of volunteer management for our faith-based nonprofit thrift store, serving as the bridge between our community and our ministry. This role focuses on recruiting, training, and scheduling a dedicated volunteer team to maintain store operations while fostering a Christ-centered environment of service and fellowship. The ideal candidate balances retail logistics with relational ministry, ensuring that both store revenue goals and community impact align with our spiritual mission.

Requirements

  • Active personal faith in agreement with our organization's statement of faith and core ministry values.
  • Minimum of 1–2 years working in volunteer coordination, retail management, customer service, or church ministry settings.
  • Exceptional communication, empathy, and leadership capabilities to manage diverse age groups and backgrounds.
  • Proficiency with database systems, scheduling apps, spreadsheets, and social media platforms(Microsoft office suite, Sign-Up App)
  • Capacity to stand for prolonged periods, move around the thrift store floor, and safely lift donation boxes up to 30 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Screen, interview, and onboard individuals looking to volunteer.
  • Create and manage weekly shifts to guarantee adequate coverage for retail processing and customer checkout.
  • Utilize volunteer management software to record accurate hours, contact data, and attendance metrics.
  • Match volunteer skills with specific thrift store needs, such as sorting/hanging apparel, tagging products, testing electronics, and staging displays.
  • Train the volunteer team on retail protocols and other store policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate closely with Donations Manager and back-of-store staff to ensure donations move efficiently from intake to retail floor.
  • Provide consistent guidance, active conflict resolution, and personal support to ensure high volunteer satisfaction.
  • Work with the store director to plan appreciation events, awards, or small perks to honor the dedication of the volunteer base.
